Why is Field Goal Kicker such a concern

After the draft the Zone was hyped and still is about how strong our Offense
is going to be this year. If our team with all its weapons Romo, Felix ,T Choice, Witten, Marty B, Dez, P. Crayton, Miles, KO, Roy E Williams I mean our field goal kicker in theory should have the fewest attemps in the league. On top of that with this offense he shouldnt have to be kicking from 55- 50 yrds all that often. Just my opinnion.

dude have u ever watched football before. we pretty much have the same offense as last year. Same players u listed above minus Dez. Kicking almost cost us a few games this year. ie New Orleans. I hope buehler steps up or we'll lose a few games we shouldnt. like every year.

It's 4th down from the Commanders 21 with Three seconds remaining and down by One. Important enough?

If one doesn't know or realize the value of having a "money" kicker, I don't know what to say.

No team is good enough to let that position "slide" because of talent elsewhere on the team.

It will ultimately and certainly bite you in the ***.

.02.

Kicking is important because

1) Points
and 2) almost more importantly, field position was huge for us last year. Seriously, we had a good defense, but buehler pinning the opposition back an average of 10 extra yards deeper than the previous year was a big reason why our team was 2nd in points allowed. Short fields aren't good for our D and missed field goals provide the opposition shorter fields... which USUALLY equals a 3-7 point swing.

I like that "in theory" line. Yeah, right.

Too many NFL games come down to field goal kicks...and Buehler is the kind of guy that you don't want kicking at 35 or 40 yards in a pressure situation. In fact he likely project to be among the league's worst from relative "gimmie" range.

He has a big but but erratic leg.

It's a classic case of Jerry trying to get cute.

I'll wait till I see a few attempts by David in preseason before I get all worked up.

Ok Ok Ok bad question and comment.

On to a more lighter question offshore drilling Y/N?

I'll take the same approach. I've never seen him attempt a field goal so I have no way of knowing what his capabilities are.

The original question, as I read it, wasn't about Beuhler, it was about the kicker position in general...

I hadnt realized that he had such an extensive resume of field goal kicking in the NFL to be judged from, for some reason i thought he had yet to kick a field goal in the NFL.

Every time I see a Kicker thread I get madder and madder at Nick Folk last year. Teach me to trust a blasted Kicker. He lulled me into false security and then became a typical Kicker, worthless.

Kicking a soccer ball around is a great way to blow off steam.

I don't like the risk. If this team is a Super Bowl caliber team, we need a Super Bowl caliber kicker.

I don't trust Buehler to be that guy. We are taking this big risk just so we can save one roster spot for special teams, ultimately, the last player on the roster.

What is more important, a capable kicker with NFL crunch time experience, or some 5th safety who runs down on kickoffs?

And, given the fact that Buehler is probably just as good as that 5th Safety at running down on kickoffs, it seems like a no brainer, sign the veteran kicker.

Quite honestly, I would rather have veteran kicker like Matt Stover on the roster opening day than a fifth or sixth receiver like Sam Hurd.

The worst thing that could happen, is Buehler has a great preseason and then tanks when the games count.

So is kicking a soccer player around, and it's a lot more fun.

3 to 6 points a game can be a huge difference in winning tough ones...

Check back with us once we lose our first game because he misses a clutch kick....Boy I hope I am wrong.... Just ca't figure Jerry out on this one... Spend billions of dollars on a Stadium and can't pony up a little dough for an experienced reliable kicker AAAAAAAAAAARRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Well how bout we actually give Buehler a chance first and I really don't think Jerry will go into the season with Buehler as the kicker if he sucks in preseason.

This is my take. They're giving Buehler a chance to be the man. If he can't hack it, they'll sign a veteran and let Buehler continue with his excellent kickoffs.
