With the signing of Cobb and the return of Austin, why is Hurns still on the roster?

WR Roster:
1) Cooper
2) Gallup
3) Cobb
4) Austin
5) Hurns
6) Brown
7) Wilson

Even before his injury in the Seattle game, Hurns should have been released. No clue why he is being kept at that cap hit. Re-work the deal and create 2.5 million in cap space if they really want him on the roster.

Or release him and save $5 million in cap space.

Use that $5 million to lock up DLaw and give him an extra high cap hit this year to start paying him off.

Because Jerry said it's ok for him to be on it.

Hurns is on the roster as insurance against someone else getting hurt. He can be released right up until the end of camp with the Cowboys owing him nothing because his contract isn't guaranteed.

So instead of cutting him now, they will let him go through camp (basically as an audition for a new team and a new salary after he gets cut) but if someone gets hurt, he will stay on the team. He already knows the playbook and has developed some timing with Dak.

Because he’s pretty good.

The 2019 cap is not the issue.

They don't need to rework his contract.

Restructuring the contract would give him guaranteed money.

Right now they can cut him without any cost beyond what he was paid last year. His salary is not guaranteed if he is cut before game 1.

The roster limit is 90 until the end of training camp.

Reports coming out of The Star is that Hurns is well-liked and well-respected by the organization and his teammates. That's all we need to know.

Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy. Jerry is attempting to prove that expression literal.

It's a bold strategy, can't wait to see how it plays out.

Probably keeping him around for a predetermined period of time so we can cut him and grab a comp pick TBH.

He's a solid role player, but not commanding that kind of money he's making as the #3 WR, possibly #4-#5.

Did I miss the final cuts or are we allowed to entertain our options in the off-season?

Hey Lion, I'm not really sure Hurns is on Jerry's list of Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy. Now if you would have said Witten I would agree with you 100%. Jason is like the prodigal son.

He will eventually be released. No real hurry to do it until it is necessary.

Don't see the urge to cut him now.
Maybe he surprises, or someone ahead of him pulls a Miles Austin in camp.
