Why is Murray playing?

Quay Walker has one quality that Jerry loves

He’s a former first round pick. Green Bay didn’t pick up his option so he’ll be a free agent.

Eagles LB Nakobe Dean should be free also.
Dean is going to be too expensive for Philly to retain, but no way a pathetic owner like Jerry Jones shells out what it will take to sign him.

Schotty is a walkabout puppet, same as all the rest. Whatever success we have, we do it without the help of a HC, like always. It's actually amazing we hang around the rim every year, considering the lack of coaching.

He's Jaylon Smith out there. afraid of contact, and not getting off blocks. Or just running away from the play. ... Weird stuff.
No, not afraid, just completely lacks the instincts to play NFL LB.

It is beyond frustrating that this position unit sucks as bad as they do considering it is supposedly Flus’ specialty
Indeed.

Overshown gets a pass from me. He's not as dominant as he was last year, but I expected that.

These guys all just need a different coach. The line is all new guys. So we don't have to hear the whole excuse about another new DC.

Just get someone competent in here. Someone creative, and aggressive when needed and conservative when needed..

This conservative nonsense all the time sucks.

Murray is the new bobby carpenter, looks good working out but terrible on the field.

Murray is awful. The only reason Murray is playing is because the owner/GM requires guys getting paid the most must play. Whether they can or not.

Most fans probably don’t know (I didn’t until recently) that Kenneth Murray is the 7th highest paid player on the team. He’s currently paid more than Tyler Smith, George Pickens, Jake Ferguson, Osa Odighizhua, Deron Bland, and many others.
As usual, Bob you're always trying to find a conspiracy theory, and spread a narrative to never been really true, of course usually the highest paid players are playing because they're supposed to be the best players, however in this situation, I don't believe that for a minute.

First of all, Murray and Sanborn were not Jerry's picks, those were the wonderful Matt Eberflus, who we should be questioning how he still has a job right now.

Those are his guys. Even Shamar James the rookie that's his pick jerry doesn't do all this on his own he has a scouting department He has a guy like Will Mcclay dealing with the coaching stuff and asking him is there anybody specific we might be able to realistically go get that can help your defense, and this is what they came up with, that is all on Matt Eberpoo..

Now back to this ridiculous narrative, you're trying to spread in this situation in my opinion it nothing to do with money, how do you try to use that argument in this situation, where he traded for Logan Wilson, you don't think Jerry would love his trade to work out? You know look like a genius look how great Wilson's doing i'm the one who brought him over here...

You're trying to tell me if they put Logan Wilson next to over Overshown, that Jerry would have a huge problem with Murray losing some snaps, like 10 or 12 more ,to get a guy he just traded for some more snaps ,somehow you don't think Jerry would love his trade to work out equally??

This has nothing to do with money, apparently whatever it is, the coaching staff which I believe it's still Matt in Brian Schottenheimer ear saying he wants him on the field I'm putting this on the DC if he didn't want him playing the guy would not be getting as many snaps because Jerry does not control the snaps within a game whether you think he keeps players on this roster or gives hints on who he wants active on game day may or may not be true I can give you that but who gets more snaps in the game no Logan Wilson was brought over here because Jerry thought he'd help fix his defense...

But here's what I'm going to use as my firepower,

You remember how close he and Jaylen Smith were, he overpaid the dude, he helped him with his company get off the ground with some kind of glass sponsorship, you know sunglasses... Everyone said the same thing, this kid was getting on the field because of Jerry blah blah blah he paid him ,so he's going to play, which by the way this situation reminds me of the same thing..

You know what happened to Jaylen Smith one year, all that money and that fresh new contract, he got cut mid-season, he literally got axed in the middle of the season because Jerry couldn't stand seeing him play so poorly and I'm betting the HC and or the DC asked for it, and you don't think he's seeing what's going on right now?

Sure, in this situation he's being having a little more latitude to some players because there are so many bad ones, he can't cut everyone...

So, in this case,

I'm going back to Matt EberPOO, you can blame Jerry for everything you want but on this instance, I'm not giving you this one either,

I believe it's Matt, it's Matt, Matt and more Matt, and maybe matt should have been fired at the bye week, instead he was given more toys that he's not using enough or improperly, using and he's still reverting back to his old ways with the no pressure and using Murray that's on that..

When I watch this game, and they came out the first 2 series very aggressive ,they made Jared Goff that offense look a little hesitant throwing the ball, into the ground giving up on plays, and then guess what mr Matt reverts to his old ways and after that second series ,the rest of the game The entire game, the rest of the defensive snaps, they only use the pressure blitzing and fronts about the same amount of time as the first 2 series, spread out all the way across the rest of the series that tells me it's on matt...

For all I care they can both have their stuff forcefully packed up, take their key codes away, from them call an Uber and send them both packing right now...

When we cut Buddy Johnson, turns out, he likely was better than this mess we are playing with now. Not sure what will Mcclay saw.

worse will be when he equates his horrible choices at LB to what diference the DT is making.....

This is what I can't stand...the blatant lies lol. Murray is out of the league after this year's tape makes its rounds in scouting circle during FA, Dude's agent is going to have to work a miracle. I guess Schotty has to play the game, don't show up the GM/Owner...say his guys are good players.
Schottenheimer is going to lose my respect over Kenneth Murray. I know he has to be supportive and positive. However, Kenneth Murray should not be playing in the NFL. I wouldn’t have him as a backup.

The line is running thin.

Awful. How do you preach accountability when players can play this poorly with zero consequences?

I am not saying the dude is a bad guy. He is just a bad football player. Be his friend. Don’t give him playing time.
Pretty damning statement for Schottenheimer. Lost a lot of respect for him based on this.

Exactly. Saying Murray plays physical is a joke. The only thing physical about his play is that it makes me physically ill to watch him on the field.

Damn news a fireable offense for Schottenheimer to say this.

We have eyes Brian.

Yup.

Kenneth Murray Jr. is a Dallas Cowboys linebacker with
mixed PFF grades, showing promise in coverage/pass rush but struggling significantly in run defense and missing tackles, leading to criticism despite high snap counts and leadership roles, with PFF data highlighting poor run stop rates and high missed tackle percentages, painting him as a "reclamation project" with raw athleticism but inconsistent impact.
PFF Grades & Performance (2025 Season):
  • Overall Grade: Poor (around 39.7 in 2025).
  • Run Defense: Very low grades (e.g., 27.8 in Week 1), ranking poorly among NFL linebackers in stop percentage.
  • Coverage/Pass Rush: Better, but still inconsistent (e.g., 48.4 coverage grade in Week 1).
  • Missed Tackles: High rate (7 in early season, 8.7% PFR rate), ranking among the worst linebackers.
Role with Cowboys:
  • Plays significant snaps, often leading the team in defensive plays.
  • Serves as the "green dot" linebacker, calling plays, highlighting leadership potential.
  • Acquired via trade, seen as a versatile, athletic player with potential to rush the passer and spy.
Criticism:
  • Struggles to fill run gaps and consistently handle coverage assignments.
  • Often appears slow to process plays or lacks tenacity, leading to chunk plays against him.
  • Despite high expectations due to draft pedigree, his PFF grades suggest he hasn't met them consistently.
In essence, PFF data shows Kenneth Murray as a physically gifted but technically flawed linebacker for the Cowboys, excelling in some areas (coverage speed) but consistently graded poorly in foundational linebacker skills like run stopping and tackling, as detailed on.
