Why Is Nobody Talking About This?

The HoF game this weekend. Yes I'm super excited to finally see football again, but there's something about it that I just can't wrap my head around. How is it seen as fair to everybody but me (and I imagine it is because nobody is questioning it) that we and Miami play 5 preseason games, while every other team plays four.

You could make a case for it being unfair two ways, first, that it's another game that we HAVE to play that is going to take a toll on our players that other teams don't have to, or the more realistic way, maybe the way other teams are seeing it, that Miami and Dallas have another meaningless preseason game to address their respective talent, while that luxury is unavailable to the majority of the NFL. It just seems weird to me, and even weirder how I haven't heard one thing mentioned in it's regard.

Dallas thinks of it as a bonus. They got to start Training Camp a week earlier than the teams. They get an extra game to get ready and evaluate the players before making final roster cuts. They are implementing a new defense and changing things up a bit on offense so the extra time is good.

I don't think there's been a 30 minute span in the prior week that I haven't thought about it.

I think it's a bonus too, just from the aspect of the extra practice time.

Yeah, I'm sure many of the players think that is sucks, but when you have so many new guys on the roster over the past 3 offseasons combined with the large amount of injuries this team suffered last season any extra time practicing is a good thing.

The Hall of Fame game is an honor just it sucks that we have to play five games, but this is what it means to be america team

None of our main guys are going to play anyways. As long as the Comeesh doesn't fine us for sitting them on the bench, (ala Stern vs. Spurs) everything will work out good. Extra week of TC, extra time to get used to new OC, DC's, and defensive shceme. This year, it's a big plus being in the game. I'm looking forward to every Non-Cowboy co-worker, friend and family I have running their mouths all day tomorrow and Monday about how many of our guys are hurt, how bad we look, Romo not playing, etc.etc.etc. I hope everyone remembers this game has it's purpose, winning and seeing our veterans is not on that list. I hope we come out with ZERO injuries, and we get to see the rookies and new guys who are fighting for a spot play their AR$$ES off. Don't look at this as unfair, or the NFL trying to screw the Cowboys, this does nothing but help us have more TC time. At least we are not going to London....

....still better than having to travel to the UK etc to play a promo game for the NFL............

I believe it is to the cowboys advantage to play an extra preseason game this year. We are switching to a 4-3 defense and there are issues with both the offensive and defensive lines that need to fixed. An extra game for the young talent in camp to show what they can do is good for the team.

Don't like it? Blame Jerry. He volunteers for it every year. Sell, sell, sell!

I wonder if there is any correlation between the early start by playing these games to a winning season?

I think we all remember the disastrous season that ensued the last time we played in the HOF game

Yes, there were many complaints last year because the Cowboys started training camp later than most or all other teams. This was considered a big disadvantage.

So instead of sitting your starters game 4, we sit them on our 3rd preseason game. Let the young guys have more playing time. Doesn't make much of a difference to me.

I think the traditional 3rd game (so the 4th game for Dallas this year) will still be the main preseason game. All the starters being held out tomorrow will play the normal schedule heading into the regular season.

Its not unfair to the Cowboys..its unfair to the other teams that have to start camp a week later. Nobody is forcing teams to play starters..which I am actually kind of surprised about. I would bet at some point in the future the league will try to get starters to play at least one series unless hurt for marketing purposes.

Two teams every season play this game. Jerry actually asked for it so they could be there for Larry Allen's induction. I agree that it is beneficial to open camp earlier and moreso than evaluating the play in the game. They have 90 players so they have plenty of guys to spread out playing time. With the injuries to the OL making that a little bit more difficult.
