Why is Tank given a free pass?

Yes tank is our best run defender, and no he can't do it alone. But I'm sure he's in there on several plays where we're getting gashed!! Nobody on this defense should get any label. Honestly Tank makes one or two tackles for loss, and it's like that's the end you hear from him. If he's our best, take over, get in guys faces and make them accountable!!

.....who is giving him a pass. I keep hearing and reading about the Defense being bad as a whole against the run....which is everybody on Defense....so what's ya point

Teams are running on the opposite of Lawrence. So when people talk about DT play and Lawrence and Micah….they are not the ones getting gashed it’s the left side of the field that teams just keep running all over.

Yeah, DE, DLaw and Parsons and everyone else is playing just great, it’s all on the one DE

Thats nut true. In fact there were weeks where teams ran more to his side.
I'll have to look again. I'm not denying teams ran on his side. What I'm saying is a lot of those big runs came when guys like Fowler, Armstrong, etc were in the game on their side.

I never said they were playing great genius. What I said was a lot of those big runs we see happen on the left side of the field. The run on Sunday where Aaron Jones grabbed his nuts and walked in for the touchdown? Was on the left side of the football on a cutback.

2 tackles for loss per game would be pretty impressive. League leader has 14 right now. In the run game I'd like to know has the most tackles for 0-2 yard gains. That would be a better barometer of how well they play the run.

My thought is that you need to watch a little closer.. Tank definitely makes more than a couple of plays. And the fact that teams literally have to scheme to go away from him is an impact that can't be measured. The only time he has really been outflanked in the running game was by Fields.. He simply was not quick enough to corral that dude. Not a lot of DEs are..

I have been saying for two season Lawrence gets sucked inside too many times, especially against running QBs. He was awful against the Bears but he has always had that problem. He played better last week but Rodgers is no longer the running type. Discipline is what all the Cowboys DEs lack. The rush too deep or get inside their lanes. I think we may see a different approach this week, but less of a pass rush.

Every defensive player loses at times. There are runs to Lawrence's side where they hit him with two blockers. There are runs to Lawrence's side where they purposely let him get upfield so they can use his momentum against him. Scheme sometimes causes bad run fits for players because of what they are asked to do on a specific play. It isn't as easy as saying, the offense ran the ball to that defender's side so he's to blame for any success. You have to look at the whole picture of what the offense and defense was doing on any given play. Sometimes your role is to blow up the play and sometimes its to hold your ground so someone else can fill and blow up the play.

It isn't as easy as see ball get ball because simplified gets taken advantage of by offenses. Just look at the Marinelli scheme. He believed in keeping it simple so players knew what to do and could just execute the scheme. He valued sound over complex. What offenses saw was predictability. Quinn uses a lot of movement to make his defense unpredictable, but that also means that if the offense has the right play-call, it can take advantage of that.

For example, if Lawrence is looping/stunting to the inside on second-and-6, like we often do to get pressure in Quinn's scheme and the offense runs to his side, the offense can pin the DL to the inside, pull a guard around to kick out one linebacker, have the RT pin the other and you have a funnel for the back. Quinn has been able to send bodies at the offensive line in multiple ways to keep quarterbacks uncomfortable, but the sacrifice is if teams run when you are doing that, they can catch you in some bad positions to defend the run.

Teams are literally running to the opposite side of the field that Tank is on almost every time.

Tank, if he falters, me lad, might be feeling the effects of aging (he'll be 31 in April) and cumulative hits.

But he's not, or should not, be signing an extension at DE.
So with youth the focus, our top 5 draft picks in 2023 must bring 3 talents to our D and 2 for our O line.

Specifically, Lawrence has underwhelmed even for having a relatively big contract of $13 mil a year, 30 mil guaranteed, for three years 2022-24.
We need to look to the future and do better at DE.
That is a lot for a highly prrforming JAG.
