We all thought the OL was upgraded.
And don't mention Flozell being out, it was still better last year when Flo was in there.

Apparently Riviera is horrible and Pettit is no better than Tucker last year.

i do not think that a lot of it is riviera fault. teams know that petti can not take on defensive ends one on one. so teams are overloading the right side with more then we can block. riviera can only do so much when the next guy beside him is just getting beat every down.

huh? flo being out is HUGE.

I didn't say Flo being out wasn't an issue but I believe even when he was playing this year, our Oline was better last year.

i would also bet if we had adams still that tucker would be playing right tackle right now istead of petti. tucker was not as bad as petti is right now last year. the problem with tucker last year was he was not run blocking worth a crap.he was giving up a few sacks and pressures but he was not getting beat every down the way petti is now. he holding is own more then petti is on left side. tucker still can not run block.

I didn't see every game last year but IMO the Cowboys haven't had a good offensive line since 97ish. There's reason to upgrade just about every position, but the Cowboys aren't going to look much better than they are right now without improving the OL first.

Today proved they still have a long way to go to be a good offensive line. I have been saying for over 5 years that the O line is the root of all of our offensive problems. It was not Aikman, Quincy, Emmitt, Bledsoe or Vinny (well maybe Vinny) but it was the offensive line that is the problem.
With the exception of Larry Allen who should have retired is 2000 this is a young offensive line and will get better. It takes several years for a lineman to be good but we are improving and are better than last year.
The O line will be even better next year but we still must improve even more if we are to be a serious competitor next year. Free agency or draft? Depends on whether you want the short term quick fix or a long term pro bowl player.
Right now our offensive line is giving Bledsoe much more time and better protection than Vinny got last year and unbelievably better protection than Quincy ever got.
The reason we even have a good shot at the playoffs at all is because the O line is so much better than last year. Curly

I always pay attention when you talk oline, Curly.

More than anyone else here.

But is this true?

Pettiti is way worse than Tucker I'll tell you that right now. Seriously atleast Tucker gets down and tries, unlike Pettiti that just flabbs his fat butt around the field.

He gets beat to the outside every single damn time....Talk about getting schooled.

Not true. Refer to Tivo. The proof is in the pudding.
Our offense went in the toilet when Flozell went out. I don't need Tivo to figure that out.

Yeah you do, because that isn't the only reason.

to answer the original question of this post "why has our OL been worse than last year?"

look at the center and the 2 lineman to his right.

And the mass between Parcells' ears.

What other difference is there? Flozell goes out, now we have to babysit BOTH tackles. Offense now stinks. Period. I don't need to watch 1,000 replays to see that.

Okay, and JJ's injury and Crayton's injury has nothing to do with this. Crayton was money on 3rd down before he got injured...and my Tivo indicates this over and over again.

Also, opposing defenses have more tape to study each and every week on our offense, and the tendencies of Petitti.

Oh yeah, and my Tivo also indicates that Flo was stinking it up before he got hurt, and that Tucker has been serviceable. Tucker (Flo's replacement) isn't nearly as bad as Petitti, Johnson, and Rivera.

Again, Flo's injury has nothing to do with the demise of this offense.

The Olines not worse but it does look worse if that makes any sense.

Jones isn't the same back this season. The fire and burst he played with last year made the oline appear better than it was. There are more theories on this than there are posters here so I won't even try to explain my thoughts.

Bledsoe also makes Olines look worse than they are. He always has. He has some of the worst in pocket mobility I've ever seen. He's huge and hard to bring down, but he never steps up, over, back whatever to get the pass off. He takes sacks that even poor ol' Vinny avoided.

Throw in blockers other than the Oline like Witten who has seemed to regress as a blocker this year (personal opinion is that being taken out of the passing game has affected his drive in this area) and the RB blocking has been much worse.

Yes, They are better but still have a ways to go. No, it did not help us any losing Flozell but we are still better than we were last year.
I expect we will be better next year and look for big things from the defensive line next year to.
I knew this team is not good enough to go all the way this year but we are improving and we will be OK.
Look at where we were last year and where we are now. To me there is no comparision. Sure we lost to a decent Giants team and Denver but at this time last year we were hoping for a good draft pick and hoping Henson would play so we could see if he was any good. At this time last year we knew we were out of any hopes of playoffs. The O line (and D line) is the difference. Curly
