Why is this a catch?

He caught the ball then he was going to the ground immediately but didn't maintain the ball? Just curious, this happened this year.

I've been asking that since it happened. He was going to the ground and lost the ball. Doesn't matter that he crossed the plain since the catch wasn't made fully

To me, it doesn't look like he's going to the ground when he catches it. He could have kept running, but he chose to reach out for the goal line (football move) instead. It's very similar to the Dez play, but the steps (with balance) and the reach are both more obvious in this case. I think the Dez play was a catch too, but it was definitely closer to the border than this one.

It definately was a catch. Anytime u take 3 steps with the ball its definatley a catch.....just like Dez's was a catch. 3 steps...

I'm guessing they'd argue he was "making a football move" in reaching for the goal line. That's really what the argument boiled down to in Dez's play; they believed his reaching out was to brace himself and not to extend to the goal line.

It's all crap and Dean Blandino is useless.

not if it's in the process of a catch and falling to the ground. You still have to maintain possession
