Why no criticism for the defense?

Defense let us down tonight bigtime. We still can't generate a pass rush to save our lives, and the secondary looked like a Division I-AA team. The giants passed at will.

That 3rd and 16 play where Tiki ran for a first down to end the half just shows how poorly our defense played tonight on national TV, IN OUR OWN HOUSE.

I know it's hard when the offense isn't on the field long, but I expected more from the vaunted #1 rush defense in the league.

Watkins once again. GET IN POSITION. Roy do something Jacobs literally knocked u on ur butt on one run when u came up to make a play.

Tiki has 3rd and 18 and u run straight at him instead and try to chase him from behind. thats just bad football.

Our defense is very frustrating to me. I dont know why they cant seem to get over the hump of being dominating. We have invested a crap load of 1st rounders into it. Why we continue to isolate Watkins 1 on 1 is beyond me. So far we have given up at least 3 huge plays b/c of that. The giants running backs already had 2 yards before they were even hit by one of our defenders. I dont even think we dropped a Giant running back for a loss. Dissapointed and frustrated beyond words right now with this team.

Our defense is very frustrating to me. I dont know why they cant seem to get over the hump of being dominating. We have invested a crap load of 1st rounders into it. Why we continue to isolate Watkins 1 on 1 is beyond me. So far we have given up at least 3 huge plays b/c of that. They took a lot of poor angles on the running game.

go read my posts...I've been criticizing it all year..3 games vs decent or good teams, the defense has stunk in everyone of them

and people can spin away, but it stinks because two people, and they aint players

Newman was out of position regularly. Roy took bad angles. Watkins had position and then gave it up on that one TD to Burress. Our LB's played OK. Ware and Ellis had decent games. Our secondary was horrible.

However, all that pales in comparison to our o-line. Columbo and Riviera played like crap. Our right side was regularly run over.

Passed at will? Eli was freakin' 12-26 for 189 yards.

What killed us is simply missed tackles and poor angles taken by our LB's and safeties.

We gave up 12 points in the first half, with a TD off of the referee taking Roy out. Another off of short field due to turnover, and another off a INT. That's 21 points due to complete crap circumstances.

But the fact I will find funny ... people begged for Roy to play closer to the line. Tonight he did alot more than in most games, and he played awful. Blitzes were there as well, but they generated zero pressure.

We need to face some facts about our pass rush. Ware is a speed rusher/bullrusher. Unless he can get under you to gain leverage, or simply beat you off the edge, he won't generate a pass rush. Ellis is the only legitimate pass rusher we have, and he's league average. Besides that, guys like Canty, Spears, Ratliff, etc., are mainly run stoppers and not pass rushers at all.

Our defense is what it is ... not a pass rushing style team that can be overly aggressive without leaving our CB's and safeties on an island. Zimmer has realized that for the most part, I wish people around here would as well.

But our whole unit is underachieving.

Roy got beat UGLY by Shockey...looked slow out there.

its not underachieving...they are playing the way they are coached to play

they are coached poorly, therefore the results are poor

This is a horribly overrated defense that is obviously poorly coached.

Our offense was putrid and we still had a chance to take a 14-12 lead late in the first half. The offense did nothing and the defensive numbers are skewed because of the turnovers and ineptitude of the offense. Ware had a huge sack and the offense did nothing. The Giants had two long drives, one late in the game and the first series. The defense played well enough to give a pathetic offense a chance. The defense is not dominating by any means, but they gave the offense chances.

You've got to be very good consistently for a good while before you can even consider being dominant. The defense to this point has gotten lit up by 3 good teams, while handling 3 very bad teams offensively. Hardly anything to get excited about over 6 games. The defense has a long ways to go.
