Why no FG?

If we are willing to pass on 2nd, 3rd and 4th and 1 from our 19 yard line with 1:14 remaining, why were we not willing to kick the 36 yard field goal get within 2 points and save our three timeouts for a game winning field goal?

Seems to me that if you are not willing to run the ball to try to get the first down because you want to save the timeouts then your play should be to kick the field goal, kick the ball away and play defense behind your three timeouts so you only need 3 points to win the game instead of a TD?

Am I wrong? Seems like a fairly basic concept to me...

Well that's assuming the Giants still come out and run the ball, thinking "Hey we can run it and punt it, and even if they get in FG range they still need a TD"

Nah, if they knew all we needed was a FG to win, they are passing, and being aggressive.

didn't think of that at the time. might have worked.

but imagine if we kicked the FG on 4th and 1 and our D doesn't get the ball back. JG would have been handed a new one here.

At least JG would not have a timeout to ice our own kicker if it happened. :bang2:

Either way you're putting the pressure on your defense to stop them. If they are dumb enough to throw the ball and risk giving us more time to get in FG range, then they're dumber than Garrett.

I don't mind that so much that we didn't run for a first to save the timeouts. I can agree a bit with that, but I thought you had to kick the FG and make Eli and the in ept offense beat you like they hadn't done all day...

Then those fans don't understand football. If you told those same fans you can choose one or the other, and what would they say?

You are kickng off with 1:14 to play, all three timeouts down by 2.

or

Turning it over on downs at the 20 with 1:14 to play, all three timeouts down by 5....

Which would you take?

False choice. We also could have scored a TD to go up by 1 or 3 (depending on the outcome of the 2 pt conversion).

There are a lot of reasons to attack Garrett right now, but this isn't one of them.

How is it a false choice? Which is more likely to happen on a 4th and 1 from the 19? A TD or a 36 yard field goal?

Which is more likely to happen if you don't get the TD on 4th and 1? Getting into the endzone, or getting into FG range?

I'd bet the odds heavily favor kicking the FG and kicking off. I'm not attacking Garrett, I'm just posing the question. Seems like a legitimate question to me.

If you're not willing to run the ball and want to cling to your time outs, then why not kick the FG and rely on your team to get the ball back and get into fg range? Instead of relying on them to get the ball back and get into the endzone...

They don't run the same defense up by two as when up by five.

Didn't matter what defense they played from the second quarter on. They couldn't stop us regardless. There is very little doubt in my mind that if the defense got the ball back, they would've moved into easy FG range.
