The idea that Jerry Jones didn't have money to spent in FA was a myth; he went after the most coveted FA on the market.

And yet, even with a bunch of money to spend, even though we are America's Team, and even though the team plays in the biggest stadium in the league, we have landed ZERO FAs. Why?

The answer lies in the responses given by most of the coveted FAs when asked why they chose to go where they did...

"I want to win now" or "I felt the team was in the best position to play for a title" are two of the most common answers. The players are telling us all we need to know - they obviously do not think the Cowboys are a good investment right now, they see a team on it's way down and think they're going to be down for a long time. These players know their time in this league is very limited and don't want to spend their best playing years dwelling in a purgatory of mediocrity.

Fellas, the players know. The players are telling us. The question is, are we willing to listen? We are a bad, bad football team - we won six games last year and considering that we have not upgraded at all, I think the chance that we go winless this year is more than a distinct possibility, it is a near surety.

I disagree with the OP but I don't really count re-signing our own guys as free agent acquisitions. I know technically they are free agents moves but still.

You kind of have to especially in Free's case, if we had lost him to another team we would have been in some serious trouble. I consider him to one of the top free agents available. The Spears signing was also important. Not a lot of 3-4 De's to choose from.

That's probably fair, we'll probably find a way to scratch out a win or two, just like the 1988 team. However, unlike that team, there is no hope on the horizon, no huge influx of top draft choices to believe in. I see a team that is a couple of moves away from becoming as bad as the teams we saw when Dave Campo was squeezing his fat body into a wetsuit at Sea World on Hard Knocks and our best QBs were Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson and we had some ****** by the name of Troy Hambrick trying to convince all of us that he was better than Emmitt Smith.

WOW!!! Winless?! Such optimism has to have you PUMPED up for football this season...

First of all...I do agree that we were a better football team a couple of years ago. But I also believe that the positions we are looking to fill can make us a contender. Namdi would immedialtey improve EVERY aspect of our defense. So him going to the Eagles...where Andy Reid has been there 13 years and STILL has not won would make me question why he would think they have a better chance to win than had he joined the Cowboys. Vick will not take the league by surprise this year...so I am still taking a wait and see approach with Vick. Don't get me wrong, the Eagles run a solid operation...but they have never won...and they have signed Jevon Kearse, Samuel, TO, etc...I think they have shown that they have been more WILLING to pay more than anyone else, so we shall see how that goes.

Losing Bowen to the Skins....are they going to win any time soon?

Losing players to the Jets....have they ever won anything?

Losing players to the Bears, are they more ready to win than us?

I think Jerry only felt like there were a couple of players that would potentially make a major difference...and he went after one of them and THOUGHT he had him. That one apparently hurt.

But I feel he SHOULD add an interior OL...he SHOULD add a legitimate slot WR. (I would have went after Santanna Moss). He should add a Safety. And he should add another CB (again, a capale cost effective CB is Carlos Rogers)

A win or two?

I see 8-8 with roster as is, maybe 5 at worst is the wheels come off. But winless or maybe 1 win is just not being realistic here. I know what a 1 win team looks like, I watched every game in 89 and that team was just plain terrible.

This team has Romo, Witten, Ware, Felix, Austin, Dez, ect.........a fairly good number of players. So to say this team is equal in talent to Carolina is just not being realistic.

The fact that you're listing off players we simply re-signed is telling. Deep down, you know this team has no chance, no hope, to win this year. No hope to win for so many years to come.

The logic in this thread is flawed to say the least. If the Cowboys want to sign a safety or two, it will happen. If they want to sign an interior lineman, they will. There are a lot of players that would love to have the star on their helmet.

Yes, I can tell. The FAs have been knocking down our door. It is time to face reality, all is lost.

I wonder what the statistic are for a team saying the biggest free agent and winning the super bowl that year are?

Wow! I knew you were a pessimist but this absolutely takes the cake.

I think its certainly reasonable to say we have serious question marks in the secondary & O-line at this moment. Maybe 2010 truly is what we are (though I believe we're better than that). But to take the entire roster into account and conclude 0 wins, well, I'm embarrassed for you.

Fellas, the OP is just messing with yall. Nobody in their right mind could look at our current roster and think we dont win a single game. Especially considering we play Buffalo at home this year.:D
