I'm sure it's because we are America's Team but I was just wondering why San Francisco doesn't receive the same media flogging we do when it comes to playoff success.

Both have 5 Super Bowls and were dynasties during the 80's (San Fran), 90's (Dallas).

San Fran. has two victories since our last one. 1997 and 2002. But since 1999 they have missed the playoffs 9 out of the last 10 years and have for 6 years straight.

Though we haven't been successful in the playoffs at least we've been competitive over the 5 years, San Francisco hasn't come close and they play in an awful division.

You pretty much answered your own question. Check out the Bengals if you really want to be puzzled. 18 straight years.

They're not the Cowboys so they're irrelevant unless they're winning, the Cowboys are never irrelevant we're Americas team

I think fans play a bit of a role in this I don't think 9er fans are as hard on their team as Cowboys fans are on this team. I think the media sees how hard the Cowboy fans are on the team and plays off that. I see many here complain about what ESPN says but frankly some of the biggest critics can be found right here.

I would say the other reason is the Cowboys are a team people either love or hate it shows in the ratings when the Cowboys are playing in front of a national audience people will tune in hoping to see Dallas lose

Not to mention all the opposing fans love to rub our noses in it. But you would think the 9ers and mafia and paying player under the table and all the other junk that brought the franchise to its knees would make more headlines.

I wish someone would point out that fact to Cris Collinsworth next time he talks about how long it's been since the Cowboys won a playoff game. :laugh2:

Not if a vast majority does not care. People want to see Cowboys news good and bad. The media wins either way. I think that is one reason many stories about the Cowboys are shown towards the end with a lot to teasers in between to keep viewers tuned in during the new cast

I forgot how many years it has been for the Lions but their drought is longer than the Cowboys.

What is REALLY sad is that we have something so asinine in common with these cellar dwellers!

I would but that restraining order...

...I think the Judge means it. I told him Collinsworth had nothing to fear since he's not a Kicker. In one ear, out the other.

Their playoff victory drought is shorter; we have an outspoken, limelight-seeking Owner-GM; they shed players like TO while we add them; their QB isn't in the tabloids all the time; they're a historically successful but not "glamorous" franchise; etc.

I think a lot of it is because we're in the NFC East. Fans of those teams and viewers in that part of the country hate us (and some love us), and that's where most of ESPN and the national media guys come from.

In contrast, nobody in the northeast cares much about what happens out west.

The 49ers haven't been to the playoffs since 2002, where the Cowboys have gone 3 times (losing all 3 games). It is kind of paradoxical, but you're actually better off being a poor team flying under the radar than you are being a really good team, but one that fails to win the big games.

Kinda like how everyone made fun of the Bills during the 1990's. You're better off just going 8-8 and no one cares about you than you are making the Super Bowl 4 times in a row, but losing all 4.

IMO the 49ers have been an absolute joke since Eddie Debartelo and Carmen Policy were put in the witness protection program. John York and his wife are about as bad as it gets.

Give me the limelight seeker any day.

Based on their history and losing tradition, few expect the Bengals to make the playoffs.

Based on their history and winning tradition, many expect the Cowboys to make the playoffs.

(Yes, I used two dangling modifiers, so sue me. ;))

Never thought of it like that before.

Great post.

San fran ownership is not about the winning, they are more about the business like a few other teams that dont get destroyed by the media for losing, if the media ripped them that would effect the business side!

Maybe because John York doesn't piss people off the way Jerry Jones does.:

John who? :lmao2:

I have a feeling if you asked a lot of people many would not know who John York is, I think everyone knows who Jerry Jones is.
