Why Not Just Cut Murray Now?

He's made a play or two here and there. But nothing that has made up for his incompetence.

I just read an article in the news zone talking about how he's going to be on the bench.

That doesn't help the team. I don't understand why he's even on the roster. I said the same thing about Elam before he was finally cut.

My question is, what's the hold up? Why are we waiting? Why not free up another roster spot right now and let someone on who has earned it?

Murray isn't even good depth. Is the only reason he's on the roster right now because Jerry traded for him and paid him?

I think so.

Ego and pride can be such a detriment and say egos get in the way so you can't see it..
 
It’s a good question. The only reasonable guess I have is because Murray is currently (unbelievably) the 7th highest paid player on this team and JJ always wants to play guys he’s paying.

If they cut him now, it would probably have a higher cap hit than if they wait until seasons end. Below is a link to his contract details.

Looks like he has a $1 mil cap hit after the season which isn’t bad.
And he is soooo bad.
 
You can’t keep “ cutting “ players and have no replacement . Elam should have never been cut at CB the depth at CB like LB is non existent

Elam was playing like crap. He wasn't cut until both Revel and Carson came back. Now Dallas has Bland, Revel, Carson, Steward, and Bridges at CB. Might as well let the young guys get reps instead of watching Elam get toasted.
 
Let Eberflus take him wherever he goes. Murray's lack of physicality dosent even make him a good fit for special teams. He has no business on the field for Dallas. Its gonna take Dallas to lose another game that hes attacked in, in order for this coaching staff to get it. I hate how stubborn some of these people are.
 
I think there should be a rule that if a poster demands a player be cut, he has to name another player currently on the team that is better than him at his position.

Currently, it seems that Murray will be a LB2. Which LB that isn't a LB1 or LB2 is better than Murray?

I'm not saying that there isn't a better choice on the team or practice squad. There just seems to be a lot of guys that freely use the phrase, "cut him" without mentioning the name of the guy who should replace him. In many cases this would be a self-defeating move.

Perhaps Murray is still with the team despite his poor play because they simply don't have someone better this season.

So bad I would worry more about him taking up a roster spot..

I ask this because I genuinely don't know. Does he even play ST?

I'd just like to see us bring in a new player for his roster spot.

Every once in a while, he does make a play. Occasionally a clutch play. But he gives up way too much ...

I didn't see the Lions game, because I had to work. But, I don't need to to know how bad he has been in the other games.

He was at least depth . Detroit had a track meet with Revel last game . Next batter up is Justin Jefferson

I was shocked as well. There were so many things he could have said to not throw Murray under the bus but to say THAT was terrible.
 
Jerry won’t cut him just yet because of the ridiculous amount he paid him and wants to save face.. besides, anything these Bozos do is like turning around the Titanic, takes forever. The future permanent replacement is not on this team yet.
 
We only have two MLBs on the team and the other one is bad also.

At this point in the season, bringing in someone from a practice squad and trying to teach them the system isn’t something that any coaching staff is going to do.

I think this is less about Schottenheimer loving what Murray is doing than it is a case of him not having any options but needing to prop up the player.

In defense of Murray, we only hear about the bad plays. I read last week where he was rated 7th best LB by PFF. Schotty says he likes his physicality and leadership.

His contract is the only reason why I see him still here, we paid over 5 million for a player so he's staying until the end lol lol
