Why not look at Jim Johnson's coaching tree for DC?

I know Jim Johnson passed away a while ago but he had to have solid assistants that learned his system. He always had a D that made opposing offenses confused and frustrated.

I'd love to see our D blitzing from all directions and confusing QB's like he always did! I'm not sure where all his assistants went but they have to be out there.

Because they are all 4-3 disciples and Jerry has already stated we are sticking with the 3-4.

BEcause its doing so awesome in Philadelphia right now? Seriously dude, you know Cowboys run 3-4 D and want to change it up now? Some people don't seem to think through before posting seems like.

Makes sense. I'm not as sold on the 3-4. I just want to see us with a defense that can put pressure on the QB. It feels like we always get our sacks when it doesn't matter. We don't have the swarming D that the best teams do.

I am curious to who you had in mind.

I think the two guys who helped him run it the past decade and were worthy of moving up have and are head coaches in baltimore and st.louis. I am not really sure who else would be worthy.

I have to wonder if dick jauron in the future doesnt go from db coach/assistant in phily to DC.

It appears his system might have died with. No disrespect to him but the Eagles are not that good anymore

McDermott was his protege, and even he has been a huge dropoff from the old master.

Maybe it was more a matter of the man than the system.

The Philly defense looks like crap.

No thanks.

I'm listening to Philly radio now and mcdermott is getting killed. No thanks to him.

The Philly D played well enough to win today. I'm just wondering how those FGs were missed. Nobody ever misses against us.

I know. Has Akers ever missed a FG against us?

He missed a 60 yarder at the end of regulation in the 2005 game at Philly. That's the last miss I remember.

most "D" schemes are 'good', and obviously, for a scheme to succeed the right players are needed.

but a lot of the success of the scheme comes from 'when certain plays are called' and this is what we call the "feel of the game" ie doing the unexpected and doing it effectively

this is why norv is a great OC and johnson was a great DC in philly

even though this is a "skill" that can be honed, the truly great co-ordinators just have a "feel for the game"
