Why not put Tyler Smith at LT?

It's what people have been saying for years. We need a RT and the answer was to always move Martin outside. It wasn't going to happen but people kept saying that's what the Cowboys should do.

Same situation as it is now. Move Smith outside. Well, it's not happening. Just like Moving Martin outside. Tysons most likely replacement in 2024 is already on the roster.
what people ? .. Fans ? .. forum boarders ? ...Tweeters ?

We only move Martin outside to RT in 2020 because rookie Steele was utterly hideous - before ZM himself got hurt (calf)
and we were forced to return to Steele.
We simply had no other OT candidates with Collins on IR, and Cam Irvin and Brandon Knight nicked .

Big difference between 2020 vs 2023 is we have an OT candidate besides just Chuma, and rookie Richards is not gonna
be a starting option,.. unless the very worse happens - per injury hit.

i think you meant Tyron, .. but yes i agree, the eventual permanent replacement for Tyron Smith is very likely already
on the roster. (ala Tyler Smith)

Let’s see, move Smith to LT from LG and now you have another weak spot, basically just putting a band aid on a gun shot wound.

Tyler Smith at LT as a rookie. Dallas needs to put their best 5 olinemen on the field. When Tyron is out Tyler is the best LT we have. Put him there.

THIS. Plain and simple.
And it ain't even close.
He's 10 times the left tackle that Edoga is or Richards is.

Literally makes no sense.
These type coaching decisions just add to my list of reasons why I'm such an avid McCheese supporter.
*Sarcasm Extreme.

But LT is the most important position on the Offensive line (with a right handed QB). LT's are normally left on an island and this is normally the QB's blind side. At guard you can get center help.

All I've heard is it's because Tyler is the best LG in football.

Well, once upon a time the Cowboys had Larry Allen who was the best guard in football and they had no issue moving him to LT when the need arose.

This team is not making a postseason run with Edoga at the spot. If Tyron isn't healthy they need to flip Tyler outside. To me it's a no-brainer.

You have Tyler at LT. Put Edoga at left guard and the center can help him. Zack can handle his side.

Not sure why this is hard. Tyler crushed last year there, Edoga gets help. Or heck, you can use a new guy at LG. Center helps him.

Why not try it before the playoffs start?

Better to get it right now then wrong in the playoffs.playoffs are single elimination.

Plus Dak can run away from a DT, doubt he can do that against Bosa.‍

Problem solved.

Go Cowboys!
I agree. why not slide him out. we did that last year too. you put one of the worst players in the 2nd most important position on the offense. and you have the second worst player on the other side at the 3rd most importnat position. makes no sense.

This is a great question and it has been asked since the beginning of the season. I don't know the answer and I do not know if the Cowboys have ever expressed a reason.

I can speculate. Maybe they think the moving two players is too disruptive? Maybe having Tyler Smith playing at a pro-bowl level is a strength they don't want to remove. Other than the holding calls he has been pretty good at LG, maybe better than he was a LT. Maybe the want better protection for Dak in the middle.

I don't feel strongly about moving Tyler either way. If Tyron is going to miss some time then it might make sense to move him. For one game maybe just try to get by with Edoga. Egoda's biggest problem against the Phins was mental mistakes.

I guess my issue is we all knew Tyron would not be able to play 17 games this year. In fact, we could have predicted he would miss 4-6 games. Why didn't the Cowboys have an adequate backup plan?

I think Asim Richards showed some good things when he played. But I think he needs to get a little stronger. Maybe next year he will be the backup. I think the same of Bass.

The offensive line this year has not been very effective. A lot of pressures have come on blitzes and defensive line games. Last year they were good at picking that up. This year not so much.

The issue with Chuma is he had the same mental mistakes vs the Cardinals earlier in the year. Dude is not a tackle. He is a guard we are trying to put at tackle.

Agree but with a shaky center and now put a terrible guard next too him. The flood gates are opened but yes LT is important. Just didn’t do enough to shore up this line in draft or FA.
