Pagano went 3 straight 11-5 seasons and will miss this year. Has had a battle with the GM and just spent half a season without Luck. Yet this guy is on the way out while JG is in year 6 of the process in a year without Romo and less overall success. Long term deals talk but more years under JG spell less progress to me. Unreal how our GM approaches things

Romo is tied to Garrett's system. Garrett not being let go to me is more about the QB keeping the system he knows so well. I disagree and wish Garrett were let go even before last year but as long as Jerry thinks Romo can still play, he will keep Garrett around. Think of Garrett as Romo's administrative assistant.

So, do you think Pagano should be fired?

Similar things were said about Gilbride and Eli Manning, but when they actually changed the system, Eli has put up his best year in the second year of the system, and a much improved year his first year in a new system. It's just a lazy argument to me that ignores just how bad the scheme really is.

It is not my argument. I am stating what I think Jones is doing. I would highly prefer a different coach and wanted one 2 years ago. Jerry is fixated on making this Romo thing work and can't see the larger picture that the "Romo" thing could get better with a better coach. I can't wait for this rancid formula is re-written.

Jerry still has faith in Garrett and truly believes he can win with him. 2014 validated that belief.

What happened this year, considering the circumstances, wasn't enough to negate that belief.

Apparently, the Colts no longer have that type of faith in Pagano.

It's that simple, really.

You answered your own question, had a battle with the GM, which apparently he lost. May end in a tie, with both being fired, but Irsay was left with few options. Fire Pagano and let the GM hire a coach (big mistake), Fire GM and let Pagano pick the GM (not sure if he's done enough to warrant that) or fire both and start over.

No he's not.. Romo was here over two years without Garrett... Jerry was going to have Callahan run the offense and Garrett sabotaged it. So Jerry settled for Linehan.

Romo wasn't even involved in game planning until 2013, via Jerry, not Garrett.

Jerry is trying to appease Garrett, while trying to maximize Romo with him. The problem is, his love of his adopted son is and has been getting Romo killed.

Emotion is what prevents Jerry from quashing Garrett. That and Jason's father is in Jerry's ear.

I don't know why Pagano should be fired. He takes over a 2-14 team and in 4 years they go 41-23.

Just because the Colts make irrational decisions doesn't mean that other teams should follow suit.

Thankfully for the Colts, they came to their senses.
