Why Parcells is taking so long to DECIDE ... and why this is good for the Cowboys

For about the second half of the season up to the current moment, I have been on board with Bill moving on and the Cowboys getting a younger more energetic coach. I did not want BP back under any circumstance.

However, the Al Groh rumor has me thinking that maybe BP wants to come back, but only if he thinks he has a chance to really succeed. This would mean bringing in some assistants that can help him do with the Cowboys what he has done other places.

This is the first stop where he has not had extreme success, but it is also the first stop where he has not had any of his previous coaches around to help. For BP to be successful, he needs some of his coaches around.

I think he is taking so long to decide b/c he is waiting to see who might become available and is trying to persuade some other coaches to join him here. Some names that could be in the mix are obviously Al Groh and Dan Henning, among other possabilities.

I would feel much better about all of this if he were not trying to decide if he wanted to return, but whether could he bring in enough quality coaches to make the return feasable.

Just a thought ... cc

This has some merit. Several (including myself) have posted about the strange nature of taking several weeks to decide whether the drive still exists to continue. But if that's tied to getting specific coaching help, it at least makes some sense: the more people involved, the more time it takes to get the word out and gauge the reaction.

Of course that could also be true of finding a new job for Himself, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Al Groh is a stiff. Both Henning and Groh were dissappointments in NY with Parcells.

We need imagination. We do not have the talent to physically beat up our conpetition (a la 90's Cowboys and Broncos).

Henning and Groh (along w/ Parcells) are all dinosaurs. And as much as I love Jimmy, he can be put on this list too.

My new choice for HC when Bill retires is Rex Ryan. Like him or not, Buddy Ryan could coach defense and so can both his boys. Maybe that doesn't qualify him as head coach material, but he's young and fiery and that's what this team needs.

Buddy was a terrible HC but a great defensive coach...doesnt mean his boys will flop like he did, but I wouldnt want to gamble on them

just my opinion
