Please help me with why Patrick Peterson is so coveted on this board a others. I have seen him and he looks good but I am not blown away with his skills. I am amazed at his athleticism. If he did not have the special teams elite play, would he still rate over Prince as a cover corner? I have seen him but only the equivalent of 3-4 games and I did not focus entirely on him. I liked his play against Bama.

He's a good player and he had alot of media hype going for him. He also comes from a football family.

I think its his rare size/speed combo that brings him the most attention. How it will translate to the NFL, im not sure. I honestly question whether he has the quickness to turn and cut with the quicker receivers in the NFL. Seems to have stiff hips.

I'm ur huckleberry

Guys, he's 220+ lbs. How many sucessful CBs do you see that big? None. I can't wait until the combine to see if he has a NFL CB's agility. Waiting for those shuttle times, and 3-cone drills, to see his change of direction. Waiting to see his hip-flip. Those are the tools that sucessful NFL CBs have. If he's just a big, fast, dynamic punt returner that we'd have to project to S because he lacks the hip-flip and agility of a NFL CB then I'd pass. It takes more than speed and size to make a NFL S. You have to have a complete understanding of the D since you're basically the quarterback of the defense. And, if you haven't proved you could do it in college, I'm not risking a top 10 pick on you. Not all succesful NFL corners have fluid hips.

Deion Sanders didn't have great hips, neither do guys like T. Newman, Q. Jammer, to name a few.

Some do, like Champ Bailey, Revis and Mike Jenkins (his play last season notwithstanding).

That my good sir is preposterous propaganda, where did u cone up with the hypothesis that he has tight hips???

LSU does a good job with the hype machine. The more people that actually watch Peterson , the more flaws are being found. He may be a good NFL player one day , but he will not be a Deion Sanders shut-own corner.

Read it again. Where does it say that I said he has tight hips? I said, I want to see him during the combine to SEE if he has good hip flip... amongst other things before I label him a NFL CB. Being a big, fast, good returner, shutdown college CB isn't enough to prove he can do it at 220lbs in the NFL. I want to see his agility drill numbers first.

I don't really understand why people have him as high as they do either. I like him as a prospect but I really, really doubt he goes #2 overall like some places are predicting.

Exactly. Everyone's acting like he's the 2nd coming of Deion. 220lbs is a lot of weight to carry around for a NFL corner. That's a lot of weight that has to start, stop, and redirect on a dime like a CB has to do. From a sheer physics perspective, it just doesn't add up. I have this funny feeling that after we see his combine numbers, he's going to project to S, and no way in heck do you pick a project S in the top 10. Until then, I'm withholding judgment and patiently waiting.

Berry wasn't a project safety. If Peterson did move to safety that is what he would be, though I don't see it happening. At least not for a few years. Kind of like with Antrel Rolle.

Dude, are you dyslexic? Do you even read what is written before responding? Eric Berry wasn't a CB in college. He was a PROVEN ELITE Safety. And, that is what he was drafted as. I said, and I'll type slow so you can read it, that if PP's combine numbers show that he can't make an effective NFL CB, that I wouldn't draft a project Safety in the top 10. There's a world of difference between the CB and S positions. As a S, you're the quarterback of the secondary. And if he hasn't proven he could do it in college, I'm not risking that he could make the conversion in the pros. Understand?

Eric Berry was a better football player at Tennesse than Peterson is at LSU.

He was a better safety than Peterson is a CB

still waiting for someone to find a 220 LB CB in the NFL that was really good.

There are none that I can recall. They're usually called Safeties. And, no way in heck am I choosing a project S in the top 10. Just because a player is a big CB, doesn't mean he can make the conversion to the S position. The S position is the quarterback of the secondary. And the player has to have a complete understanding of the D as well as situational awareness to be a successful S. And, if he hasn't proven he could do it in college, I'm not risking a top 10 pick that he can do it in the pros.
