Video: Why Robert Jones Could be a 'Huge' Pick Up for the Cowboys

This team will go how the o-line goes. The Cowboys are in need of dependable depth; there is a big hole at RG, RT seems to have regressed since his surgery; and a rookie LT coming off injuries last season. Just as important, who is going to step up and lead this line with Z. Martin gone?
It’s imperative that guys like Bass and Hoffman step-up; they have been in the system now for what 3 years? More importantly, this group has to protect the oft-injured, increasingly immobile, prone-to-panic “franchise” QB. A tall task indeed.

Does he make the final 53? I say no, and that would be a good thing because it means the young guys are better.

I'm just not interested in hoping that this or that player over achieves, we need to actually players that are proven. The Jones magic show has grown tiresome...
Maybe You missed it ,

but at the very least he was brought in here for depth, and he will be a very strong backup, you need that right,

if someone gets hurt he is a viable starter he may not be up to your expectations but you missed the point much ??you may not get the best he's ever brought, but I remember last year when everyone cried over Jerry not spending 6,000,000 you remember cheating Jerry not spending a measly 6,000,000 on tyron Smith but all The Jets fans were excited and said the Cowboys were stupid for letting him go for that money he was worth it right Nope had one of his worst years ever Jerry was right The Jets were wrong,

NEED more proof; how does chuma Edoga or a guy like Peters just keep getting picked up, OR lance getting a shot with LAC, and they end up playing another teams,
but when the Cowboys bring them here all of a sudden they're all trash and you have no faith in any of them and yet every team does it every team is loaded with these players the salary cap is top heavy with your top five guys that are making the most money and about 11 more that are clear starters the rest of them you have to go around and find them, you got to find guys like this every season a team is losing about 17 players that are up for free agency and you lose some of them you bring back some of them but now you got to fill in those holes...

but other teams do this they bring over players and in this case we're not even counting on him as a starter and they made Tyron Smith the starter as if he was going to be old Tyron Smith but when you bring over somebody with less expectations if he can work himself back into just solid that's a great backup that can give you spot duty play should he need to step in and start a few games.....

That's the point, that's why these guys are on every team that is why Jerry's not different than anyone else they all need them they all go out and have to fill this roster especially the bottom 30 with players just like this you have to have role players you have to have depth and they can't all be pro bowlers they can't all be superstars or all pros I know you think that 'cause people around here that seems to be the expectation you think we can have three of the best at every position and that jerry's wrong for not doing it.. :muttley:  :oldcouple:.

He won’t beat out Bass…..he’ll probably be the primary back-up at guard and Hoffman will back up Beebe at center.
How do you know that for sure?

don't you need training camp in preseason games and all these practices let the coaches decide that ?

you do need more than one backup, technically bass really only excelled as a backup left guard for some reason, didn't look the same at right guard, and the fact is you would need another backup then,

Because what if something happens to BB like you said then Hoffman slides over, guess who's going in at right guard, it won't be bass ,it will probably be Jones and I'm just saying this again before we see it all play out, he's got experience as a starter for sure he can play spot start at LG.

This isn't any different than when guys like Peters and Edoga keep finding places to go late in their careers, because you always need depth, even if the guys don't look good to you, they have a role on teams every team fills these roles in with the same guys...

Besides I feel like the middle of our line is just fine the way it is both with backup starters rotations there's no need to make crazy moves there however the tackle spots are unsettled they're gonna be hell of a battle and a lot of evaluation going on to figure out the tackle spots...

Wow this video is bad...like really bad. He said that Rob Jones was a top 100 ranked guard this season, a top 50 guard 2023....There are only 64 starting Guard spots in the league. Plus Jones failed to log 500 snaps in 2023.

The handful of plays shared in the video were pretty lackluster as well. If you're only going to pick a few plays to share in support of Rob Jones and these are the best ones....ouch. This either means Jones doesn't much quality tape or this is a Youtuber just trying to push out content as quick as possible and has done minimal research on the player.
Matty dubbs has 120k subs of brain dead fans - not sure who can watch this and say they gave accurate info

Strong backup? This dude was DEAD LAST in ranking last year. Now I hope I'm wrong about this guy being a waste of time, but you really spent a lot of energy and explanation for a JAG. lol. We should be spending money getting playmakers, and here you are more than happy with signing last place ranking Guards.

Gotta agree, but they aren’t going to do it so it’s not worth even thinking about.
I just feel like that lineup gives you the closest thing to nearly having an elite line.

It's not about where the players are now. Yeah, like DQ said, be where your feet are.

But, to me, it's more about coaching them all up to their potential. I actually do think Tyler Smith can be a top 5 LT in the league given the proper coaching. He has the ability.

That's the Cowboys way. Sign jags and busts and experiments and talk about the "potential" and "upside". It's embarrassing.
Every.
Single.
Year.

It's in their offseason marketing handbook.
Then you compare the end of season results to the offseason "attempted" sales pitch to sucker fans in. And it's just pathetic to look back on..

But then there's always that group here of naive, er clueless, believers that makes this forum entertaining.

I’m with you. I just don’t see it happening.

All along I’ve felt it’s been an outsmart everyone else thing by keeping Tyler at LG, signing him accordingly, then maybe moving him out to LT on the cheap....as if he won’t say a word about it.

Let’s see what actually happens.

That's why he is on our team. That's what GM Jethro and Stephen like to sign in FA.
