Why so many NFC East vs. AFC West games scheduled so close together?

The following games have taken place or will take place in just the first four weeks of this season alone:

  • Cowboys vs. Chiefs
  • Eagles vs. Chiefs
  • Giants vs Broncos
  • Giants vs Chiefs
  • Eagles vs Broncos
  • Eagles vs Chargers
  • Cowboys vs Chargers
  • Commanders vs Raiders

That's a lot of division vs. division games to pack into just four weeks. Is there a particular reason for this?

There seems to be a trend lately of trying to stack the vast majority of intra-division games later in the season, that might have something to do with it.

Yep - they want more meaningful (division) games to be played towards the end of the year. Business decision.

You forgot Denver @ Dallas in week 5

and yes, the league wants the divisional games to be played more in the middle and end of the season...Dallas' last two games are Wash & Philly and Wash plays the giants in week 17

Check out this week's NFC East schedule.

Cowboys at Chargers
Commanders at Raiders
Eagles at Broncos
Giants at Chiefs

I liked it better when the schedule was a bit more random/spread out, but it's not something I'll lose sleep over.

I like it this way personally. The conference games and then of course division games later in the season have more playoff and tiebreaker bearing

Looking at the games for the weekend I could see the Commanders winning and Dallas losing. I also see the eagles losing and the Giants is a Toss up. I'm just not confident in the passing game for Dallas to go down to SD and win. It's out of sync and very "slow" there's no explosiveness that we are use to seeing. I think defensively we will be in it but offensively I'm just not sure. Also IIRC we haven't beaten Phillip Rivers yet have we? Or wait I think we did in what 2005? When opening game in SD. Also I think if Pryor plays I think the raiders have a better shot at beating the skins if Flynn plays it's a win for the skins for sure. I hope TP is healthy enough to play.
