Who the hell actually expects us to beat TB next week? Anyone? Anyone who isn’t delusional? Are there any other teams in the NFL who didn’t have winning records nor make the playoffs that we’d expect to beat the SB Champs? Jerry doesn’t expect to win….period. McCarthy doesn’t expect to win….period.

Now, anything can happen in the NFL. The Cowboys could win; Dak and Zeke and those receivers and OL could dominate; the D could get turnovers; the calls could go our way. And I could win the lottery. It could happen.

The bottom line is this:
  • Dak hasn’t taken a game snap in almost 11 months, so even healthy, he’s not expected to perform without any rust against the SB champs and a very good defense.
  • Our entire OL hasn’t played together in a real game in more than a year…there will be issues.
  • Our defense was putrid. We all know they will be better, but from putrid to elite vs Tom Brady of all people….no.
And yet, this is the perfect way to start the season. At any point of the season, we would be expected to lose to TB and Brady, the SB Champs, so I love getting that out of the way in game one while Dak and the OL knock off the rust, while the defense looks to at least have a few series that they can build upon. I would hate to start the season against a team we are expected to win against and maybe give it away while so many previously injured players are knocking off the rust and the new defense and new players are trying to jell.

If we were starting the season vs the Giants or Eagles or Jets, I believe we would have risked a few more starters in pre-season because that’s a game we need. I feel sure that starting against the Champs had a lot to do with not playing our starting OL or Dak or Zeke or seeing much of our defense in preseason.

Maybe we win on Thursday; I’ll be delusional that night with hope, but the chance of winning is slim. And whether the final score is close or lopsided due to late turnovers, I won’t care too much. Let me see the OL, Dak, Zeke, receivers making plays, having some shining moments, and getting out healthy with something to build upon. Let me see a defense that isn’t breaking down with receivers uncovered for easy TDs, a defense that doesn’t let the offense avg 5 yards per run, and maybe some timely stops or turnovers. Again, get out healthy. I’ll be happy. I want a close game, where we are still in it in the third quarter.

Use a game we would never be expected to win to build towards winning games we should win and jelling as a team. But if you think a team with lots of new faces on defense, several key new coaches, lots of guys coming back from injuries, and a handful of rookies and marginal free agents should beat a SB champion with everyone returning and healthy, that’s a little delusional. Go Cowboys!

I watched a lot of the OSU-Minnesota game last night and this reminds me of what the upcoming bucs game WILL MOST LIKELY UNFOLD FOR US..

It was competitive MN fought hard had shot and fell short at the very end..good fight by MN and believe it will only help MN going forward to have game like that even in loss.

should be a lot like this dal-bucs game

i know the old adage is no inspiration or motivation comes from a loss but in this case maybe there can be,

We have become the champions of excuses!
This is how low our franchise has sunk.......

Wonder what new excuses we will have prior to the Bolts game.......
P.S.Patience as in week 3 we play a dog Eagles team.....

I actually kind of buy this logic. It also may have us playing more loose given it's a road game as a dog. It's not the worst thing in the world to be opening on the road as a big underdog.

So facing a top rated, aggressive defense with the QB playing his first game in 3/4 of a year after a bad ankle injury and a shoulder issue during camp while also having both your starting OT's coming back from season ending injuries (and the RT dealing with a stinger issue).....not sure how that equates to facing TB the first week is a good thing.

What many should be hoping for is to get out of the TB game not necessarily with a win but all [layers coming out without injury.....because if Dak, T. Smith, Collins, or any other starting OL member gets badly hurt then the season may end before it even starts. So perhaps the smartest thing would be for Dallas to not let Dak play because TB will be one of, if not the toughest defenses faced all season.

Tampa is a significantly better team than Dallas.

This is the best chance for the Cowboys to beat them. Before they get their feet firmly underneath them coming off a Super Bowl hangover.

Still, I fear the Cowboys are going to get steamrolled anyway.

But opening weeks are unpredictable.

Seriously, the attitude around here is blowing my mind. I understand it's a tough matchup but I can't believe so many fans hating on their own team. Why bother watching the sport?
Did you miss the past 25 years?

The Cowboys have been consistently horrible in high profile games like this. Just embarrassingly awful.

It's a measuring stick for sure. Do I expect them to win, no. Do I want them to win yes. To be the best, you have to beat the best. No one expects them to be anything other than what they are. An underachieving franchise. So go shock the world...

This is the NFL...its not high school or even College Football. there are no moral victories here. And excuses are for pansies. These are grown *** men playing a kid's sport, and getting paid very well. You either win or lose and then go on to the next one no matter what happens. As fans, all you can do is root for them and wish them luck.....but win or lose the week after is another game. No moral victory column.

Good post, I agree, and yet, when we lose, it’ll be big headlines. The “experts” will talk doom and gloom and embarrassment, how the FO is staffed by incompetent morons, how they’re THE pop laughingstock of the league, the worst organization in the history of sports, blah blah blah. The ABD’s will laugh and snark and carry on about how flawed the team is, and we’ll be the underdog in virtually every game we play.

Can't just sit your starting QB because you're afraid of a gorilla. The entire team would be laughed out of the league. Good luck regaining any credibility as a coaching staff with your players after that. If a beatdown is coming, then you take it like men and move on to next week.

Excuses for what? To earn YOUR blessing?!? Hahahahahahaha…I can’t imagine ANYTHING I would care less about!

What did Jimmy tell his team before the 1992 NFCCG against SF.
Something about smacking a gorilla in the mouth.

As most everyone thought SF was going to slaughter us. I wonder what all these whiners would have been like back then if this forum existed.
