Why the anger and angst?

Let's start with the obvious. Few in here think that this coaching staff Is a high caliber one and even fewer think the management is competent with regards to personnel.

This team was 9-7 last season but really 8-8, if PHL had actually needed that game. So, this is a .500 team going into the off season. How'd they do in the off season?

They drafted an OL in the 2nd that needs a year of strengthening to start on the OL. They lost WR1 and TE1 and while they were not performing at the PB level they had in the past, management failed to replace them with anything remotely at their talent level. That's 3 out of 11 starters and not one as good as what they're replacing.

The QB struggled and plenty of excuses or reasons can be made for that but if you think he's a consistently accurate QB, you can stop here, we have nothing else to discuss.

Hey, I am not saying you don't have a right to be angry and you can post whatever you like but I am that old guy sitting in the corner watching all of this and wondering 'why do they not see what I see'? Do they really believe all that positive spin or are they selling themselves? Which, btw, is perfectly alright as long as you realize that.

Under this coaching staff, this team is not good at overcoming losing a starter. Isn't that the excuse? Player X wasn't playing. Add to the downgrading of the OL missing the Center, one of the very best in the NFL. 2/5 of the OL is new and the remaining 3/5 aren't playing very well.

All I am saying is before you get pissed at management, coaching and/or players, who should you be the most disappointed in? Sellers cannot sell unless there are buyers.

When our expectations are not met, the first thing that should be examined are what are/were those expectations based on? Were those expectations arrived at objectively, utilizing all you know about the game of football or is there too much seeing what you want to see and seeing is believing?

Simple coach, I'm most upset at myself for believing, not that we would win a SB but that we could win 10 games then see where the chips fell. After all we were 9-7 last year, suffering the hangover effects of Roger and Zeke all season and then Tyron late in the season. So yes I believe the goal of winning 10 was objective.

I never believed that we were good enough to win a SB this year based on talent, one playoff game maybe. I have never cried for JG or SL firing. Still don't. I don't cry for Daks benching or for Dez to come back. I am wondering why Zekes carries have fallen to 15-16/game and why this O-line has regressed so much. Don't tell me that T Fred is the difference. No one can prove that, they're just words until/if he comes back. Yes 2/5ths of the line is new, same as last year and we started the season 2-3 so I suppose there is still hope for 10-6. But my oh my the coaches, QB and O-line have to get their poop together or 9-7 will be a lofty goal. I have little reason to believe they will turn things around, the first 3 games have taken that reasoning away. We stink!!!

Of course some fans would say, GREAT, stink it up and then fire JG, SL and draft a new QB but man would they ever whine and belly ache if we drafted for the O-line again. I'm a stubborn old fool, I don't think like that.
 
I THINK the people with the high expectations probably are the most crushed and angry. cowboy fan forever but wishing on a star and seeing EXACTLY what we have are two different things and views..this team didnt all of a sudden become average to below,its been like this for the most part of the last ten years. i thought this year we would go like 8-8 because there is no way u lose dez and witten who has no yac yard ability but is a leader and will get open, and be better. that offensive line been shaky since last year. so you lose fredricks and tyron IS NOT the same dude, how does a fan get so much confidence? where is it coming from? shouldnt they have to show you before you say "im not concerned about seattle because the oline sucks and its not the same legion of boom". the expectations of this team should have been brought down until management and coaches and players show different consistently..save yourself the headache.

Wow, why can’t we be angry because we are correct that this FO and coaching staff suck.

It has all been hashed out over and over. Sure there may be some good sides to coumtermthe bad sides. However the fact remains, we have been an 8-8 teams for 8 seasons under the process clapper dude and an owner that will not admit it will not improve.

The high expectations come from the lip service the FO and the “we like our guys” crap they spin every year, every day.
So when those expectations are not met, yes, you are dang right we are angry and should be.

I think the ones with the high expectations are the homers and they're in it for the long haul. They are letting the dust settle and are currently stocking up on more sugar to cover up the sh!tballs being served up by Jerry.
 
Considering I chose 7 or fewer in the prediction thread...can of hard to be upset or shocked at the outcome thus far.

Frankly if anything I think the Defense has played better than I expected this early in the season.
I figured they would have a good deal of trouble early on esp in the secondary but would come together and do well as the season went on...as I just said they have been better than expected thus far.

Did not expect much of the Offense.

Dak had trouble enough throwing deep last year, we did not get many deep threats at WR and even if we did...at this point the way the oline is playing he is going to check down and get rid of the ball faster instead of getting hit time and time again. Which also brings us to the O line which has been bad with Fredbeard gone and a light in the butt rookie who will need time to gain strength as everyone pretty much said when he was drafted. Add to that no legit TE option at this time other than some fans wanting to dub Rico a legend before he even caught a pass in an actual NFL regular season game.

If this season progresses the way it is going now we have a few things to look forward to...

1. Jerry finally sees it and gets rid of the Ginger and Hires Richard to be HC
2. We get a decent draft spot
3. Hire a decent OC
4. We draft Offense...depending on picks and price that could be a new QB, WR or TE.

This season seemed like a wash to me before it ever started due to how the offense was handled or not handled in the offseason.

The defense and some of the players on defense and Richard taking over play calling have been the lone bright spots IMO

I don't advocate tanking a season or games and never will. Thinking the team will not win much this year is different than wanting them to tank.

I just think they will. So with those expectations in my mind...It's hard to be mad at losing some games that I expect we will lose.

I do get upset from time to time with some play calls and them not learning from it...or a bonehead play from a player like Randy in this past game...but other wise...I expect it to be bad and just have to wait it out.

I agree... I predicted 8-8 in the prediction thread and we can still get there... The more wins the better but under this management, I'm setting the bar where it is and just hope for the best while not getting upset is we don't do better than 8-8.
 
I will still cheer for them, I am hoping and praying a leader on this team emerges (Player or Coach) and get this team together.
I'm not holding my breath though.... We just looked so directionless and unmotivated yesterday.
 
I'm only angry that I said 8-8 rather than 6-10. The angst I feel is against my fellow forum members, life, and mankind in general. All except you Coach, your something special.
 
I am not going to get upset again unless we don't fire Garrett in the off season. If we get a new coach then I will be optimistic, unless it's someone like Jeff Fisher who is another career mediocre coach. I'll be ecstatic and have hope for the franchise again, at least for a few years while giving the new "process" time to be implemented.

If we keep Garrett then I will once again have no hope in 2019.
 
The homers are starting to realize what Beast has known for years...……..that Garrett actually does suck

Coach Clappy has been here dam near 10 years and the team is actually getting worse, not better, under him.

Some are taking this realization pretty hard.

I can't believe he's been given 10 years with one playoff win to show for it.
 
Been a Cowboys fan since 1976. So I've seen some ups and downs. But this is different.

Ever since 1996, the Cowboys have always been Next Year's team. Just one more year boys. Its coming. Hang on. Keep the faith. Have hope. Just a few more pieces. If only we had............fill in the blank. Its a process. LOL!!!!

The Cowboys are a joke. And have been for a long, long time. They have no idea what they are doing. And don't care. Its like Jimmy Johnson said. They are a country club. Living off the rep of great men and great teams of the distant past.

I just hang out here now to occasionally join in the rage and for the lulz. I've switched sports and teams to FC Dallas. At least its actually FUN to be a part of that scene.

I'm not angry because the Cowboys fail. I'm angry because they still exist in their current form. Even though they have no right to exist. Have not earned it. Have given no one reason to support them. Its incredible. And maddening. There are many teams in the NFL that have been so bad for so long, they just shouldn't be there. The Earth should have imploded in on them and taken them down due to the gargantuan FAIL of the franchise. The Cowboys are one of those teams. But there they are all the same. LOL!!!

Amazing.
