On the surface it looks like a stretch and a risk to take someone like him in the second.

The only reasons I can think of are largely these.

He is a high risk but high gain type of player. He is supposed to have speed but is apparently having trouble putting it on the football field. A lack of speed out of cuts and even high end speed is supposedly a problem. But if this guy can learn to run good routes and the problem is as much technique as anything, then he could end up being a talented receiving TE. Because he supposedly isn't going to block anyone. Yeah, they can teach that, too.

They saw more in him than most people judging this draft did. Yeah, no duh. With Witten and Curtis on the team they have a servicable TE in the event Witten goes down, God forbid it. They can let him develop while using him around the goalline and on third downs.

He just has to be one of those players with a very high ceiling. Or they spent a 2nd on a player who is a specialty player.

And maybe for a SB team that has really no space for a rookie to play a lot, this is the kind of pick a team like Dallas can afford to take a chance on.

Notice: I don't necessarily subscibe to the dribble I'm writing but merely trying to put myself in Dallas' shoes.

Whatyathunk?

My Sporting News Draft Guide has him as the top rated TE this year and his comparison is Jason Witten. :)

Well, that makes me feel better anyway!

How much longer was Fasano under contract? Perhaps that had something to do with it? Or Fasano reached his ceiling?
