Reason 1: The Cowboys have lost the last 3 out of 4 games to teams that pretty much were in the top 5 in the NFL in passing ( Phili,NO,and Detroit).
Seattle is ranked 20th in passing and have Jackson (leading receiver), and Hackett ( their second best reciever) questionable for the game Saturday and neither has practiced this week.
Reason 2. The Cowboys will not have to face a receiving running back like the Bush, Westbrook, or Tiki that has given them so many problems this season. Yes we know about Alexander, ex MVP, but he has average less that 60 yards in the last four games against Dallas and this Defense does not give up much against straight ahead backs. This defense can still stop the run.
Reason 3. Seattle is tied for 4th in the league in giving up sacks with 49 and they have had over 7 different starting olines this season. Walter Jones ( the perenial Pro-Bowler) is having his worst season of his career by giving up 10.5 sacks and both of their guards are injured. Sure Detroit had oline problems but remember they also had a top 5 passing offense and we did sack them 5 times. If only we hadnt giving them the ball to start 5 drives on our half of the field.
Reason 4. Dallas is the only team in the NFC that plays the 3-4 and Seattle has problems against that defense. They only scored 17 against an unmotivated San Diego and 10 points against pittburg in the SB. Bottem line is the Cowboys will switch back and forth with the 4-3 to create pressure but our defense should confuse their 20th ranked offense.
Reason 5. This Seattle (and Holgrem's progress) has been overrated. Last season was his first winning season/playoffs in about 7 years there and this season has been no different. They play in a weak division and have also (like the Cowboys) only have two wins against with winning records (Giants and Denver). Oh, that Denver win was Rookie Cutler's first NFL start. They lost to San Fran twice and lost to the Cardinals ( with Hassleback and Alexander in the lineup).
Now I should go into how our offense, which is also ranked in the top 5 in passing, will be able to put up points on a secondary that just signed 3 guys off the street that should play on Saturday but just know that we have the only team in the league that has two 1000 yard receivers AND a 1000 yard rusher AND the NFC leading reciever and rusher in TDs AND a TE that has caught 60 passes in three straight seasons.
But the fact is that it will be our defense that will be the reason why we win.
Let the debate begin about how many touchdowns we have giving up over the last five games and how many yards we have giving up. Hey I am basing my logic on match-ups and how the Cowboys play. We struggle with coverage against passing oriented teams that put up numbers like Furrey (ended up with 98 catches for the season ) and Roy Williams (he's good).
But Seattle's offense is not like Detroit's, New Orleans, or Phili's offenses and that's why they are ranked in the top 5 in passing yardage and Seattle is not. Sean Peyton and Dree Brees run the best offense in the league. Phili and Garcia is the hottest team in the league and Mike Martz was the coordinator for the Greatest Show on Turf.
Sure Seattle may be West Coast but it is not the same and that's why they are ranked in the bottem half of the league. Last year's season was a product of Shaun Alexander and his oline (remember he was shut down last year by this defense) and they are a shell of that this season.
I will end this rant by saying that to me this is a no brainer that the Cowboys win and I am basing this on fact and match-up. Now if we were playing Philly or New Orleans then I would be worried. But Seattle and Chicago are teams I am confident we can not only beat but beat-up!
