This year, Dak’s contract hit was just $17.2M. Next year, that jumps to $34.5M. That difference amounts to one franchise tackle or defensive end that we either won’t be able to pay.
I’m not saying that JJ did or did not overpay. The market is the market and no one should be surprised to see us here at this point when a QB who is not quite elite played more or less like the player that he is. I’m just saying that this was the best shot that we had to get production that exceeds the cost at QB for the next 4 years, and we just missed that shot.
It just feels like we’re doomed to be the what the Seahawks have been recently over the next few years - relevant, but never a threat.
