Why was Dez not productive in Playoffs?

Jason Witten 11 _ 134 _ 12.2 _ 0
Terrance Williams 4_ 130_ 32.5_ 3
Cole Beasley 7_ 101_ 14.4_ 0
Dez Bryant 6_ 86_ 14.3_ 0

He is the # 1 but finished 4th in the playoff games.

Was it him? or the coaches did nothing innovative, or were content to use him
as a decoy?
For what they will have to pay him now, can they afford to just use him as a decoy?

6 catches,86 yards and no td's in 2 playoff games is not good for the
2nd best wr in NFL is it?

Probably because teams doubled, and at times triple teamed him.

I dont think detroit or GB did any triple cov.
And he should be able to get open or catch balls if dbl cov.

So I am questioning the coaches also, game plan wise and in game.
GB had cobb in backfield and in slot, in motion, Cowboys could do that with dez.
Seems dumb to pay 12 mil or more for just a decoy, or for those numbers.

and I am mainly referring to the 2 specific playoff games last year.

When in playoffs they will be facing better defenses, and that is when key players need to shine, not be dim.

Very few WRs can line up in the backfield and be effective. To be effective, the guys who do it best (Harvin, Sproles, Cobb) all <occasionally> rush the ball.

Dez is just too big of a WR and not quite sudden enough to be that kind of WR.

Dez makes his money on the boundary. No shame in that, however, you do highlight one of the main drawbacks for WRs who mainly plays on the boundary -- it's easier to double them.

I'm fairly certain I saw, at least a few times, a safety over the top of the CB and a LB flooding his underneath zone.

Not many WR's outside of Calvin Johnson are going to have 100 yard games when being doubled.

I think with our OL improving in pass protection this season, and our noticing how teams scheme for Dez, this point will be addressed fairly adequately.

Because he's a scrub. Why is he still on the roster? j/k He was being covered leaving other receivers open.

Dez could have been more productive if the ball was thrown his way more often. But other guys were getting open enough that the ball didn't need to be forced to Dez necessarily.

I admit I haven't looked at the playoff tape in a while, but if I had to guess I'd say that Romo just opted to throw to an open or single-covered Witten/TWill/Beasely rather than a double-covered Dez. I'm sure that he could have thrown it to a covered Dez more and Dez would have come down with it more often than not, but then you may increase the risk of an INT. When you have other play makers on offense besides Dez, that will make the QB feel more comfortable about giving it to whoever is most open.

Dumb question.

Do those guys approach those numbers without Dez?

Fantasy football has made a new generation of idiots

If you want to take the parsing of stats to the extreme, Tyler Clutts has more career playoff TD's than Witten and Dez combined.

Well when you have Terence Williams as the number 2 opposite of you, teams will dare you, and tend to play you in a game of chicken.

If T-Will can't beat his man or Witten, they won the game of chicken.

Your stats answer your question. Teams attempted to take him away and based on Witten and Beasley's numbers that left the middle of the field open. Willams big play against Detroit was across the middle as well.

So it's not only about stats in the NFL???
