Why was the Holloman play not a sack/turnover?

Did I miss the explanation? The ball went backwards ten yards. Backwards passes are live balls. Wilber got us a (bumbling) recovery clearly. What the? And if this is some weird rule, the NFL needs to get its act together. Another Tuck rule, that one is thankfully gone at least.

I don't believe there was a better explanation other than the refs screwed up.

His arm was coming forward when the ball was knocked out.

Im really not sure what part of this some don't seem to be able to grasp.

I disagree, I think he popped that ball out before, but I could be very wrong.
I'd like to see that play again, but it's not so important right now that I'm going to search for it.

I think I just might defer to you on this.
You sound sure of yourself.

From what i saw when they slowed the reply down, his arm was clearly coming forward when the ball popped out.

If it was the regular season, i might have gone and looked for the replay again myself, but i do believe they made the right call.

At first I thought it was a fumble, but, watching it again it did look like his arm was going forward. A split second sooner and it is a fumble, but them are the breaks in football.

It looked to me as if he had an empty hand when arm was moving forward

It'd be nice if someone knew how to get a replay of it to post so we could all view it again.. either way though, nbd.

The ref at least judged that the arm was coming forward. One could argue that any backward pass or lateral is a live ball and that ball went backwards but for some reason that argument isn't applied. I assume the league doesn't want too many different variables for the refs to decide so they keep it simple.

Its not a backwards pass unless you throw the ball backwards.. if the ball gets batted backwards, its not the same.

It wasn't batted backwards though. He threw it backwards from the force of the hit.

The whole tuck rule is stupid anyhow. Punishing a defense for getting to the qb before the ball is out of his hand.

Because Zona always gets all the calls to go there way? :D

It was actually a bogus call.

I think the replays that they showed during the game sucked. You would probably be better off if you have an NFL rewind account.

One angle i saw was pretty decent.. they certainly showed it enough times, haha.

His arm wasn't really going forward, but his hand was, and that's all that mattered. Close call, but the right one. Not necessarily the best rule though.

One of us needs to take anatomy class again..

Technically- his lower wrist bones were moving in a forward direction, but his outer finger bones were moving backwards.
After a thorough microscopic replay-
I have determined...

Yes.
