Why Was The Running Game Successful?

Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Ryan Pickett said that the Dallas Cowboyshave the best zone running scheme in the league. He also added that, “(In) the last four weeks, nobody could stop (their running game).”
These quotes shocked me. Does the team really have the best zone scheme or is it something else? Most Cowboy fans know that Tyron Smith has been playing well, but what about the rest of their line? Today we are going to examine why the Cowboys have been so successful running the ball.

The first thing I noticed is how well the guards are playing, particularly Ronald Leary. Leary has been dominant in the run game the past few weeks. The thing I have noticed that he has done well lately is transferring athleticism into power. Here is an example of that:

The offensive line has been good. I opposed the Waters signing and although he was much better then expected I feel moderatly vindicated with the play of Bernadeau.

If Leary can clean up his pass protection we should be in good shape for the forseeable future.

I really like how Murray is adjusting to reading where the hole is and bursting through it. He is running with his head up and blasting into the hole, lol that's what she said.

The OL is playing at a far better level than last year. I just hope the front office isn't satisified because there is still work to be done. Our depth still concerns me.

Free and Mack went from supreme suckage to total awesomeness miraculously thereby giving everyone the ability to say 'why don't he run the ball'. It also overnight wiped out the legions rueing the renegotiation of Free's contract, not cutting Mack and blaming Jerry for not addressing the OL.

I think the o-line has improved a great deal and Murray has shown nice patience and vision.

Our OLine is now a strength, and has been all season.

Actually the entire offense is loaded. Top 5 line, elite WR, HOF TE, and our RB leads the league in YPC.

This is too much optimism. This thread may self destruct.
Please tone it down. We have the biggest game of the year this weekend.
We are supposed to feel down and sorry for ourselves.

Good write-up! Awesome that things are coming together for the run game, which is why it has been so ridiculously frustrating that they have deviated from it to their detriment. Massive, massive failure by Callahan and Garrett in not pulling the plug on the run/pass option when the game-flow has been screaming run and the team has been getting yards in chunks on the ground.
