Answer is simple. Goes back to the Deion signing. Stephen did not want to pay Deion. Jerry did. Jerry signed Deion and Stephen almost beat Jerry up. Fast forward to today. Jerry will never give up the cowboys til he is dead. Stephen knows this. Stephen does not have the same love for the boys that Jerry does. Stephen wants to save every penny he can cuz when Jerry dies Stephen plans on selling the franchise.

You know how hard it is to manage any free agent signings when you have $60 million in cap? We need to focus on pie and not get into cap hell in 2047

Jerry and Stephen like to play football big shots. They don’t put in the work to be real football guys. It’s not even arguable at this point.

There’s not another team in this league that would hire either of them as a GM.
Maybe the Maverick’s would? ;)

What does the cap have to do with the value of the franchise?

It’s the economics of the nfl. They make more by overpaying dak. He sells lots of jerseys
I can't imagine buying the jersey of the fainting goat we have at QB,,, he's not even top 10 in selling Jerseys. Justin Jefferson on the freaking Vikings sells more Jerseys!

The real reason is they don't have the football acumen, knowledge, skill or the ability to play in this arena with the professional GMs of the league.
Jerry's background is the oil business and Stephen's background is he happens to be Jerry's son.
Neither are qualified for their front office positions.
This is why this team has had little post season success.

Nope. You're forgetting the salary cap min that has to be met.

And it's even simpler. They are not football savvy enough. Just too dumb. Desperately need a GM.

Very well said.

IMO ...this is exactly why Dak was signed for $60M instead $56M which would still made him the highest paid. Too lazy to fight with him or grind and find his replacement. The easiest way out is just to give him what he wants.
