Why won't parcells take over "D"?

Since he "bought the groceries" he wanted, why doesn't the Tuna take over the Defense since it's obvious that Zimmer doesn't have the right "recipe" for the groceries that Parcells bought? He needs to address the lack of sacks and teach Ware new moves toward the QB. I would rather take my chances with Watkins at safety than Davis since it's clear that Davis just doesn't have "IT" to play safety.

Maybe, just maybe, there isn't as much talent on the defensive side of the ball as we'd like to believe.

Roy has coverage issues. Henry has been inconsistent. The DE's have not been good. Singleton is, well, Singleton. DeMarcus Ware flashes brilliance and has played very good games but hasn't yet become a dominant force. I dunno but I'm not on the Bradie James bandwagon at this point.

I just think we might be guilty of over valuing our talent.

Why do you guys think that Zimmer is operating on an island and not getting any input from Bill Parcells.

Nothing is done without Bill Parcells' approval, everything from the draft, to free agency, to play calling on both sides of the ball.

This is Bill Parcells' defense, make no mistake about it.

good post. fans are definately over valuing talent

other than Tnew and Aaron you can tag every guy on D overhyped and underperforming to fan expectations.

He's chicken. He doesn't have to take any blame that way just like on offense.

I've ranting for weeks that I'm tired of hearing about talent and potential. Everyteam in the NFL thinks they have talent and potential. Bottomline, I want some G D results.

You know we agree on this bold statement. I've not seen a dominant force here in James. I mean, he makes some plays, but Ayodele is all over the place.

I'd like to see more of Carpenter, or atleast sub them in and out. Best game I've seen Carp play thus far, I thought he took a step forward yesterday.

I just have a problem with all the hype for James. The last few games he looked like the guy from a few years ago...over running plays...out of position...etc.

I was too stunned to notice Carpenter last night.

It's our job to over value the talent. :)

But every now and then, we gotta wake up to what we see.

Tnew, is a super player. And ya know, to a degree Ware is also...I just don't think he's as good as we want him to be. Yet.

And good point about A Glenn...he's done a great job.

I agree we may be over valuing our talent. The test of the salary cap era is testing whether players are living up to their contracts. So here's my take....

NG- Fergy is a stud, good signing-worth every penny. Ratliff 7th round...nuff said.
DE- Spears and Canty are young. Not sold on them yet, but I haven't given up. These two are keys to these recent drafts. I like Hatcher too. For the money, Spears is probably not getting it done right now, but that could change. For 3rd & 4th round picks, can't complain about Canty or Hatcher.
OLB- Ware is a STUD and I don't care if he didn't play great last night. I like him, even if he's not Merriman-just different type of player. We'll see with Carpenter, seems like he's getting better-don't know that he'll ever be a pressure type of player opposite Ware though.
MLB- Aydole (sp?) is playing at least as well as his contract, probably a little better. Bradie simply isn't getting it done IMO right now and he's being paid like an upper echelon LB.
CB- Newman is a stud and Henry would command more money today than he did when we signed him. He's a good player. Glenn is a great 3rd CB.
SS- Williams needs to be around the LOS more to be effective. Not having a great pass rush combined with no cover saftey is not a good recipe for consistent success. Roy is a good player, but a bit over rated IMO. I've actually wondered recently what the drop off would be if an average SS were playing at that position and we had more $$$ invested in a decent cover FS? Would this team be better potentially for less money? I'm really not trying to bash the guy, I like him, he just gets beat a lot deep.
FS- Dallas hasn't invested a day one pick or FA $$ here.....and it shows. I don't know if Watkins in the long term answer or not, but a better FS may actually allow Roy to use his strengths more.

Overall, my concerns are....Roy Williams and B. James playing up to their contracts as leaders on this defense. Also, we need more from Spears-he was a 1at round pick. Its to early to push the panic button on this defense...but there may still be a piece or two to the puzzle missing.

Roy's a good player

when he's in coverage 10% of the time like most SSs are
If we could just get a smart ball hawking FS we could then use Roy where he should be. If we're going to allow him to continue playing in space, we're done.

i'm about ready to throw Henry at FS and Aaron Glenn and Newman at the corner. Glenn appears to have A LOT left in the tank.

Thankyou! It's obvious that Parcells is calling the final shots just look at what Payton did last night and this season we did'nt do all those cool thing with our offense last year. It's called CREATIVITY

I'm not saying I like what Zimmer has done, he needs to go, but Parcells said when he came here "We win or lose with me calling the plays"

Yeah it's funny how some of these guys that get tons of snaps you never hear their name or see them make plays but a guy like Glenn in much more limited role does.

What has James done lately besides drop Int's, pretend he's the bull while Eli is the Matador on several up-the-middle blitz attempts and get steam rolled by Jacobs?

I'm a pessimist by nature so it's easy for me to think players arent really good until they show me they are. I dont understand the notion of people assuming certain players are really good until it's proven they're not.

Honestly, since I dont make a note to see who actually is in on defense at any given time when it comes to the rotational players, I couldnt even tell you who *is* in there because none of em ever make plays that make me take notice. Spears, Canty, Ratliff, Hatcher, Coleman, Carpenter, Singleton Burnett... whatever.

Ok not never..but not often enough.

But ya ok whatever. It's the "scheme" that keeps them from beating the man in front of them.. not their inability.
