Why You Never Bring Maher Back Again

Not only was it the playoffs, he missed an extra point in three straight games, including two consecutive playoff games.

But it's possible that could happen to even the most accurate and consistent kickers, right?

I can at least see the logic in that argument. All kickers have misses.

My biggest problem is Brett Maher's comments after the game. It seems he's not all that aware, situationally.

A reporter asked him how he was feeling after finally making a kick, and he perked up and started explaining how it felt good to redeem himself, and relished in that thought for a good minute, all while his teammates were reeling because they didn't do enough after he made everyone's job, and everything everyone practiced for, more difficult.

If he was even slightly aware, he would have said, "well, you know, I didn't do my job well enough for my team to have faith in me sitiationally, which likely cost them points in a game where my performance again was less than stellar."

Or something along those lines. That guy never cared about anyone on his team.

That's the only way you can be that big of a letdown.

Definitely not the right kind of guy, and I would suggest Dallas make better profile assesments when it comes picking the right kicker. They can really make or break you, especially in the playoffs.

Said this in another thread but IMO Maher should have been cut. I realize it was going to be tough finding a quality kicker on short notice but it was too much noise all week and gameday. Can't tell me that didn't have an effect on the team and the Niners as well.

Glad he made his kicks but the trust was/is gone. Time to move on.

wrong, IMHO his RS says he has right to compete for job in TC.. he made his last one in TB , first one blocked and made what 2 fgs.. so he did earn coming back in TC to compete, may the best man win.. lots of payers made mistakes last night and sorry but picking on the kicker is not fair.

He was going to miss the other extra point that was blocked. If it kicked it straight it never would have been blocked.

How can you not make extra points but nail 50 yarders? Well that's for him to figure out while he's standing in the unemployment line.

So does the same apply to Dak since Maher had one bad game while Dak has sucked for numerous games?????

Nah man..your clutch factor in pro football went negative one hundred and eighty-six. You're outta there because I can't trust you..after 6 straight extra points. That's what a coach with authority does.

You think Micah wants to play with a kicker like that?

You can say it didn't cost them. But it put unecessary pressure on Dak. Alnost like the NFL paid some consultants to clobber the Cowboys with some league wide memo about foreign objects on the field, then only call it on us, and it totally flipped the switch on our kicker.

Brett Maher's stuff was all mental...like Dak's and they've had plenty of time. I'm trying not to be too reactive here, but sometimes you have to react to respond correctly.

They also missed a key roughig call on Dak, but he had already thrown it, and missed and this zebra crew clearly had some bias.

Still, we didn't do enougn to win. Thanks to Dak.

Well, it's just like anything else. Except for it's not. For him, it's mental. It's not what you do in practice or regular season.

Like going out there and starting that pregame nonsense didn't have to happen and that part needs to be better policed by the league...no need for pre-game thuggery. That doesn't happen if you have it together..but when you miss 5, it's a team distraction.

You have all offseason. There's another kicker out there, I promise. Something weird is up with Maher, and I think it's indeed mental.

He was worse the first time, worked hard and came back this year really good. He blew it in the playoffs, but id at least keep him around until we find someone better

Seeing that pregame thuggery made me sick. That was unbelievably disgusting.

If you are serious about winning you absolutely positively can not bring this guy back for another year.
Right.

There's really only a small window for this team before they blow it up again.

Two years. You can build for it now, and plan for the future at the same time while being the most competitive bum beaters. But you can at least lay the groundwork and start preparing for the post-Dak Cowboys.

I like Dak. He's a standup guy. He's just slow at processing the game in general, compared to the remaining QBs, not even close.

Look what Burrow is doing with so mucb less.

Everyone could see we had a talented team.

And then there was Dak.
Dak.

If this this idiot would have been on his game then all the Boys would have needed was a field goal to tie the game and not a TD. If he made the extra point I'm sure MM would have sent him out to nail a long field goal. Maher needs to go, he can never be seen again in TEXAS!

Especially in context with the cowardly tackle on Pollard.

That's what bothers me the most. He deserved a win. When I saw him carted off with his head down, that part reminds me of the thuggary..and i connect it, because I think it's related to your kicker being the weaklink and maybe even taking bets one way or another..something seems off about him to me.

Man.

Man.

Yep. That player tried to break his ankle. And he did it.
