Wide Receivers in the draft

Our WR group is getting smaller. My conclusion is that if they need someone in the draft to come and contribute next year they probably need to look at the first grouping the farther up the better. Those six guys will probably be gone by our second round pick. If they are counting on Lamb, Gallup who was hurt last year came back and got hurt again, Brown, and Simi we are in a world of hurt. If they are planning on signing a FA, that market looks extremely thin and a little pricey.
I use Michael Gallup as the example. He was pick #81 in the third rd and was a impact starter day 1. Terrence Williams was another former 3rd rd pick (74) that was an immediate day one, impact starter. We don't need to replace Cooper, but rather replace Gallup as the #3.

Just so I'm clear you want to replace Cooper with Lamb. Then who is our WR2 after Lamb Gallup? He has less production last year than his rookie season. He was hurt came back and got hurt again.

In terms of draft picks Gallup had less production in his rookie season than Wilson had last year and fewer catches than Brown with 33 receptions for 507 yards. Williams had 44 receptions and 736 yards as a rookie and 37 catches for 621 yards his second.

Where does Cooper Kupp fit?

Thanks for your posts.

Me post once, edit twice!
He had a pretty good rookie year, not as good as St. Brown this year for the Lions but better than the others graded in his range. There are always outliers, it would be nice to be able to predict who they will be.

Statistically

Lamb is replacing Cooper
Gallup (full season) is replacing Lamb
Wilson is replacing Gallup

its WR 3 or 4 that we will will be looking for, with hope for upside.

I understand that is the plan with Lamb. It was only one game but In the Broncos game when Cooper was out he had 2 catches for 23 yards so he will need to do a lot better if Cooper is gone and he's WR1. I think Wilson is going to test the free agency market. Brown could probably replace Wilson's production from last year. If Gallup gets signed and is 100% by the season opener and stays healthy he would be a good WR2. One thing to think about is he's only played two full seasons in his four seasons with the Cowboys so if he misses time you're looking at Lamb Brown as your starting WRs.

I suspect we'll look for a WR in the draft and/or FA.....was just saying that I highly doubt it will be a WR1.
Lamb was our leading WR last year by a pretty good margin and in spite of some of the hearsay, he and Cooper had the same types of coverages.

The whole team was awful vs Denver.
When Cooper AND Gallup were out, well then, of course, Lamb got totally blanketed. The type of coverage that no Dallas WR had to deal with all year.
AND Dak was shockingly bad that game.
We were down 30-0 at one point got some 4th quarter stat-padding to make it look better.

As you mention, Gallup is a wildcard. Get him back and we should be solid.
But we'll need to add 1 or 2 anyway.
