I wonder if the plan is to keep 5 or 6.

On the 53 roster:

1. Dez Bryant - stud, matchup challenge
2. Terrance Williams - contract year ,and it will be a good one AND the Boys should let him walk
3. Cole Beasley - steady, except the one game a season he has with a game changing fumble
4. Brice Butler - looks solid, maybe the trade will pay off
5. Lucky Whitehead - return man and some packages in play

Others:

1. Devin Street - he gets cut, is he PS eligible?
2. Chris Brown - his injury will IR him
3. Andy Jones - if they keep 6, it could be him or maybe PS
4. Vince Mayle - his special team ability helps him make his case
5. Rodney Smith - cut

Thoughts?

Likely 5. Street looks to be the odd man out.

I'd keep 6, with Andy Jones being one of them. And I'd go short at RB and QB to make the room, if necessary. With Williams and Butler both free agents next offseason, I'd like to keep another player Romo can count on, and hearing Tony and Dez talk about Jones, I think they're a lot higher on him than is generally getting reported right now.

Its looking more and more like Butler is worth the trade, like OP said. I hope he can keep it up. He looked pretty dern good against Miami.

Street won't be PS eligible unless they had some radical rule changes.
Brown is on IR, but doesn't mean they won't reach a release agreement, But prefer they keep him on IR for the year.
Jones is the best bet to make it #6, and Mayle may push that issue, but see Mayle on PS again.
Rod Smith on his 3rd year now I believe, so he may get another shot on PS, but his 2 years on it, he was like a yo-yo with it, on and off.

Agreed. I think they'll stick with 5. If they go with 6 it might be Mayle because of what he adds to special teams.

Dunbar is making the team folks and won't start out on PUP. Just read an article on dc.com and JG loves him. He was ready to come back a week ago and they held him out on purpose. I hope that doesn't mean the demise of Jackson.

Jackson was a PS guy from the get go. He will make the team if DMC stays on NFI and they decide to keep 4 RB's.
I want Jackson to succeed, but he hasn't wowed anyone yet, except for those that want DMC gone. So it's more of it wanting to happen, then showing it can happen IMO. Though I seen and heard a few reporters saying he is having a good camp.

If DMC is not back in a week to show what he can bring to the team. Then I just rather have him stay on NFI and have Jackson on the roster if they keep 4 RB's.
It is up to Jackson at this point to show them why they need to keep him. I am intrigued to see this speed he has. But then again, how often does break away TD's happen. And he won't beat out Lucky for the return duties, but could back him up though. This will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Beasley has had a couple of fumbles but he's also a tough matchup for most teams

Speed isn't just about break away TD's. Its also about catching the edge and breaking a 20 yarder. I think we saw some of what Jackson could do with a good line against Miami. He got to the edge and turned it up and was into the secondary real fast. Honestly, I'd rather keep Jackson as RB4 then McFadden as RB3. Cheaper, under control longer and with a much higher upside at this point in their careers. The further down the roster you go the more potential I want to see.

Vince Mayle and Andy Jones intrigue me, especially with Butler pushing for starting reps and Williams on final year of contract.

With all $$ being invested in OL and bigger needs on D, I doubt that Terrence Williams will be re-signed for the big payday he's looking for. Will be lowballed harder than Murray IMO. And Brice Butler is likelier the more economical re-signing, or contract extension during season.

I don't know why you would keep 6 unless he was a ST'er who you really liked. Brice Butler is going to be taking some snaps from Terrance this year. Devin Street is nothing special at all. Did Andy Jones catch a ball yet? (I did not watch the 4th Qtr or much of the 3rd.)

It looks like we have some depth and the offense could really be good with these WRs

If Dunbar is 100%, he can play ST, he can play receiver, he can play RB that will give him a leg up but the question with Dunbar is durability. I think Jackson sticks he has been running for the most part with 2nd/3rd/Camp body lines and DMC just does not fit the scheme this offense runs for blocking.
