Wilcox playing well!

Both safeties looked great.

Church had his worst game of the season last week and bounced back in a HUGE way.

Everytime it looked like McCoy might finally break off a big run, Church came in like a missile through traffic to wrap him up. Best tackler on the team.

Wilcox is still raw so he jumps on everything (seek and destroy). The FS needs to be relied on not getting fooled.

I think Wilcox has been a more than pleasant surprise. Going into this year, safety and o-line were the biggest question marks. Obviously the o-line is playing a lot better, and I think the same goes with safety, which has a good amount due to the play of Wilcox. We have had a handful of mid-round safeties the past decade that have all pretty much not panned out. J.J. could have rode the bench for three years before getting but and it would have been par for the course. The fact that Wilcox at least looks like he understands what he's doing is found money.

Wilcox is performing as good as you would want from a 3rd rounder who only played safety for ONE season in college! This guy has a ton of potential and plays with great passion and attitude. He's gonna be a good one for us. He filled the running lanes great today on shady McCoy. This kid will have ups and some downs s a rookie but he's gonna be good. Great pick by JJ and company.

His range helped him get that tipped ball in the end zone. As they say he seems to be around the ball a lot as opposed to being caught flat footed looking confused.

True, but I'm a bit worried about our safety depth. If Church or Wilcox gets injured, who are we putting out there? I'm not sure I trust Heath at the moment and I certainly don't want McCray taking the field.
Mat Johnson, oh! Urghhh!

I am encouraged by the development of Wilcox. He only started playing as a starter in the last few weeks and he has gotten better each week...he does need to wrap up as some have said...as much as I remember the two end zone plays, I also remember where he didn't wrap up and it cost the team a first down.

rookies will be rookies

Very impressed with JJ's progression. If he continues to work hard the sky is the limit for him.

Wilcox is a keeper. Not sold on Church as a long term solution though. Not saying he's played poorly but I do think we can improve. Still hoping Hamilton can emerge that we don't have to invest a high pick.

I'm extremely high on Wilcox's potential! If he's already making plays like this as an extremely inexperienced rookie, then he obviously has tremendous instincts for the position. With a bit of seasoning, the sky's the limit for this kid! I absolutely love the way Church tackles. He just puts guys on the ground extremely well. Hardly ever see him miss one. Like others have said, he is okay in coverage, not special, but okay. I agree that if this scheme calls for a definite strong and free safety, (as opposed to the safeties being "interchangeable" as we've heard for years here) then
the two should switch roles just as soon as Wilcox has the experience to not be fooled by things.

I completely disagree. There's no way I'm spending a high pick simply for marginally better play as compared to Church.

I'm not saying we should, just the opposite. I'm saying I hope we can develop within (Hamilton) so we won't have to. And if if Hamilton doesn't develop, I think church is still adequate enough where we can look to other positions during the draft.

You must be talking about the interception..the tipped pass on the ball to Jackson was a great defensive play

He speed to the ball and made a great knock away. Let that score stand, and a better throw on the near miss interception, and we have an entirely different ballgame.

Wilcox is playing 1000 % better than Alan Ball ever did as a multi year vet........

Hopefully in a year or two. I think we'd be better with Wilcox at FS and Church at SS. I like our secondary. Carr, Scan and Claiborne are all young. Hopefully Claiborne gets it together and starts playing like a true #1.

With more man coverage Clairborne, even injured is looking better

How do you guys view our safety situation? Fans on this website confuse me when it comes to their opinions of the safeties. Lots of people make it sound like Church is the best safety we've had since Woodson, then other people make it sound like he is our weak link in the secondary. Wilcox is a rookie but he's played well enough that he might be our guy for the future. So, if you're of the group that believes Church is that good, does that mean we don't have to worry about safety for another 6-7 years?

The weak link right now is Claiborne in the secondary. Which is a good problem because he is not that far off.

My apologies, I completely misread.

anything is better than sensabaugh.

I'd argue anything is better than McCray. At least Sensy did not take his own teammates out of the game.

Also Sensy was the definition of a JAG while McCray was just flat out bad at being a safety.

Wilcox brings some athletic ability to the position that we have lacked for a long time. Once he learns the ins and outs of the position he will be a beast. Great draft pick.
