Will a switch to The West Coast Offense help The O-line and Romo?

This just in - Romo has a noodle arm.

And our passing offense has been struggling, apparently.

Good stuff.

Frankly, I know the Romo worshippers won't be able to look at it objectively, but it is what it is.

Apparently neither will the haters. Per ESPN scouts:

Romo missed the last 10 games of the 2010 season with a fractured collarbone. Romo was having one of his best seasons of his eight year career at the time of his injury. He has average size with above-average arm strength and deceptive athleticism. Romo has great feet in the pocket to slide and improvise to make plays downfield. He is a smart, instinctive signal-caller who might be one of the best improvisers at his position. He is a bit of a gunslinger, which is a big reason for his success, and has learned how to take care of the ball better in critical situation. Romo can be one of the better signal callers in the league when healthy and the Cowboys' success will depend on how well he bounces back in 2011.

Every scout, coach and GM in the league sees him as a guy who can make every throw with strength and accuracy. You choose to see someone with a weak arm. But yeah, I'm sure you know more than they do.

2006 Eagles with Jeff Garcia?

Better answer.

I'll go with this one.

Andy Reid had crossed my mind, but I knew he'd been forced to adjust his philosophy because neither McNabb nor Vick are west coast quarterbacks.

The pure West Coast offense hasn't been around for quite some time -- the key identifier for me was the split backfield (as opposed to I-Formation).

It's not a coincidence that we don't see any pass-catching fullbacks anymore either. Remember the days where fullbacks where catching 60-80 passes?

Ummm, that's not a fact that you are stuck on. It's called an agenda.

Just for laughs I would love to see you try to bring some facts to back up your position of "80% of Romo's YPA is the result of YAC by Austin, Dez & Robinson's."

I'm picturing the blank look on your face as you consider how to get out of the corner you've painted yourself into. It's priceless. :)

I don't think he has a weak arm by NFL standards. He doesn't have a cannon like Favre or Elway, but weak arm, no. In fact, if you have a weak arm, a timing based offense would probably play to your strengths. Timing means the ball is thrown to a spot and before the receiver is making his break.

The guy threw for over 4k yards and 31 TD's versus 10 INTS. 66% completion rate and a 105 qb rating. I am not saying the guy is perfect, some of those picks were his fault, but others cannot be entirely be pinned on him. But NOODLE arm? I don't think so.

The YPA rating is more of a cumulative stat than anything else. It is how successful an offense is per passing play. It's not solely on Romo, it is Romo and all his receivers. So if Romo's receivers are inflating his YPA average, you can say the same thing about Rodgers, Brees and Brady all of their YPA's were above Romo's 8.02 rating.

That 8.02 rating was good enough for 7th in the league.[/QUOTE

Noodle arm???? Only a complete imbecile would think Romo has a noodle arm. He gets in trouble when he can't resettle his feet, but the guy has PLENTY of arm strength and probably the fastest release in history.

I dont want to see a West Coast offense but I would like to see Dallas use some of the concepts of it in our passing game. Mainly crossing routes, slants and a better utilization of RBs in our passing game.

Sometimes I wish as a mod I could "star rate" individual posts in threads :laugh1:

This is a good one.

Romo would benefit greatly from running the west coast offense. His noodle arm is far too limited for the vertical or timing based passes that is preferred now. Romo is far more accurate when he is on the run. His biggest blunders almost always have come from when he is in the pocket and trying to find an open receiver that he can reach with his limited arm. When he can't find one, he tries to squeeze a pass in between two defenders, but after the 7.2 seconds it takes for the ball to get from his hand to a receiver 20 yards away, one or two of the defenders have closed on the ball and makes the pick. It has happened over an over. 80% of Romo's YPA have been the result of YAC by Austin, Dez, and Robinson. Not to mention the few games when Murray and Felix caught passes. So, if the time the ball is in Romo's hands is shortened up, the better chance for a positive play. Make Romo react, don't make him think. If he is thinking, he is screwing up.

I can see how you'd say this about Garrett, but Romo? Me thinks you're trolling.

Get your stopwatch out and measure the time for a simple 20 yard sideline pass. 7.2 seconds

You are wrong about Romo.

You are wrong about me.

You are wrong about what constitutes trolling.

The West Coast offense has gone the way of the single wing and wishbone. They were great in their day, but defenses have adjusted.

I hate it when someone watches NFL highlights from decades ago and says," We should do that too!"
