Will Allen and Justin Durant to visit Valley Ranch Monday

This tells me that a deal with Romo and/or Spencer is likely very close to being done and announcement is forthcoming. Durant would likely project as a starter at SAM in our defense.

So who has watched these guys/has good info on them?

Durant is productive -- not a break the bank signing but good LB depth. He or Sims would come in as the likely starters with a strong "show us you can do it" message to the young guys fighting to play SOLB

Not necessarily on Durant. Detroit doesn't want him back because of his liability in coverage. Excellent in run support, but misses a lot of tackles in coverage. At least he's only 27 and has upside. Might be more for depth and special teams

Like the Will Allen possibility a lot more. Even though he is 32, he is an excellent special teams player. Started a lot at safety last year with injuries to Clark and Polamalu. Plays both safety spots. Steelers fans seem to love him, as well as coach Tomlin. He played excellent at safety in spot duty last season

That sounds like a good fit at SOLB. He'd be off the field in the small change packages.

Wonder which deal is almost complete, spencer or romo

I'd guess Spencer, but a total shot in the dark.

The Dallas Cowboys haven't made many headlines during free agency, but the team continues to mine for talent at bargain prices.

The Cowboys plan to host a pair of free agents -- safety Will Allen and linebacker Justin Durant -- on Monday, according to the team's official website.

The Cowboys possess just $102,000 in cap space and must find someone to play across from free safety Barry Church. Allen, 30, started seven games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season and showed himself to be a productive run-stopper filling for Troy Polamalu. Still, Allen was never relied on as a consistent starter during his six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and three with Pittsburgh.

Durant, 27, would give Dallas an experienced 4-3 strong-side linebacker who chalked up 103 tackles with the Detroit Lions last season. He started 26 of 29 games in the Motor City since 2011, but it's concerning that Durant is on the open market for the third time in his career.

ugh @ Will Allen, another guy we would be wasting $ on b/c of his play on ST's..I would think you could get any of these guys on the cheap end if they are interested (Huff/Barber/ maybe Deangelo Hall/Woodson) RB (Benson/Wells/Bradshaw) < all 3 coming off injuries but I would be willing to take a chance on one of those 3 instead of signing players like McCray & Will Allen.

Like both Durant and Allen at the right price.

Durant sure fits the mold of a Kiffin OLB at 6-1, 230 or so pounds. His 40 at the combine (4.5) shows what a good athlete he is. I'm sure he's got some warts... but he could probably be a very solid SOLB for us.

Durant on run downs, Sims on passing

Durant had 103 tackles last year. I'm not sure how his overall effectiveness was but he was at least ok.

Allen seems like a good pro to have the young guys learn from for a year or so.

No. You have an extra DB in on passing downs. That's pretty standard across the NFL

Durant is pretty good. Not great, but would probably beat out big ern.
