Browns Q&A
May 20

Cleveland Plain Dealer (registration required): "Looking to 2008, is there any chance the Browns try to pick up a guy like Julius Jones, who is entering the final year of his contract?"

Extract: from Hey, Tony!
Q: Hey, Tony: I really think we need some depth at running back. Jamal Lewis is long in the tooth; his best days are likely behind him. I can't believe the Browns were not more aggressive in the free-agent running back market, with guys like Selvin Young and Darius Walker available at one point. They had very productive collegiate careers. Looking to 2008, is there any chance the Browns try to pick up a guy like Julius Jones, who is entering the final year of his contract? — Ron Biswas, New Haven, Conn.

A: Hey, Ron: Jones is an interesting name because his former position coach in Dallas, Anthony Lynn, is now the running backs coach here.

So Cleveland might already have Julius in mind, huh? Would that officially make JuJo part of The Trade? lol.

maybe they will give us a first round pick for deuce mcallister since he is reportedly going to be dealt after this year  (which is a terrible move if its true)

The fact is that if we want Julius to stay, he will.

Teams appear to be getting more wise about the cap and contracts. There is no honor as of the 'good ole days' anymore. RBs have a short half life. If he can be replaced by someone younger read with a smaller contract they will do so in a NY minute. By trade if possible but likely if he goes he'll just walk read run pun intended to the highest bidder most suitable to him. He's tradeable now. As time goes by less and less so. But anything is possible.

I like Deuce, but no way anyone gives up a first rounder for him...

Hmm I hope Julius Jones has a good year and make Dallas have a tough decision...

I hope so. If he stays healthy he'll have enough left to be worth another contract. I wish someone would come along good enough to give us options and more leverage. And keep us from having to draft a RB next year.

Why wait for 08... Trade him now!

Ok. Let's trade him for two firsts.

I suspect there isn't anyone out there willing to give us anything near his worth to us this year.

Even if you find someone willing to trade what are you going to do about your running attack this year? MB is not Larry Johnson.

Trading him now only hurts the team. Now that we have 2 #1 picks, I'm willing to take a loss, and get nothing for JJ if he has a good but not great year.

I think JJ is going to quiet a lot of the doubters this season. I think with Phillip's more laid back approach he will flourish and be the back he's capable of being.
