Will Cowboys be more active when bigger names start looking for one year deals

Where are you getting 12 ?
Turpin’s tender once signed 5
Figure they didn’t want to go into the season with a bunch of rookie RBs who can’t pass protect with 60m QB coming off injury where his hamstring tore off hip… budget up to 5m
Martins dead cap hit for this season hits June 1st 9.4m
Next year it will be 17, guessing they hold back some for that 6-8… especially in the event they have to tag Micah
Every team tries to hold back 10m for rookie class and in season operating cost and signings
ERFA tenders for Hoffman and Thomas 3m for each I believe
Figure in punter and long snapper
Guessing they like to get a long term deal for Aubrey by mid season.

Spotrac has them at 48.6 with Turpin and Martin accounted for. They have not updated with todays signing though.

Elam and Murray are 10m . Elam 2.5, Murray 7.5. Give or take a couple 100k
It's interesting. They could fit a $20m cap hit easily. I don't see anyone who I want to pay that. Including the WR. Maybe Scherff if he is still near what he was 5 years ago. Trade?

I'll say this....free agency isn't about great. Great players don't make it to free agency unless they are too expensive or over the hill.

So knowing that.....I can sort of see the method to the madness of finding your own Zack Baun. Or your Becton. Finding your diamond in the rough. So look at all the 1st round busts and give them a change of scenery and see what you can do.

You still have to build through the draft but rounding it out with some solid veterans is the move.
It’s funny I was thinking the same thing. They are trying to recreate what Philly did. Minus the solid draft and grabbing the unicorn that is Barkley in FA.

This team loves to try and recreate what other teams do.

Go back to when they drafted Escobar(no offense here at all). That was to mimic the Pats with Hernandez and Gronk.

They don’t know what they are doing. So they try and copy. Then tell us they know exactly what they are doing.

Trade is possible. You could see a vet wr and someone like Will Hernandez too

Right. And the thing is they never fully commit to it. Yes Philly hit on some guys but they also spent money on Barkley. It’s like they buy the manual and skip the steps they don’t like lol.

I do agree with this that there is nothing wrong with kicking the tires and we are talking about guys that are not over the hill and holding on for one paycheck in general. They are young guys that were highly thought of and maybe they just need a new start. Some of them have not been terrible so I really don’t have a problem with most of what they have done. The issue that most have I think is the team keeps trying to tell us they are legitimate contenders, but without a couple of big additions, it is hard to buy that. There is no one that we have brought in. That is going to make this team any better than they were a year ago.

You aren’t wrong. The approach is flawed. If you want to say they are trying to do what the Eagles did….they aren’t signing the Barkley and while Huff sucked and was a waste of money it still was a attempt.

But it’s consistent with their approach. They continue to sell draft picks. I hate the approach. These guys are gonna sell past draft picks as our upgrade this year smh.

With the amount of space they have, the Cowboys almost cant be done. They went into FA with close to 60 million in space and from what I can tell the only thing that really dents that is Murrays contract.

Could they get more active when starting caliber players start looking for 1 year deals?
The counter point to that would be, why 'invest' in more expensive one year contracts (for older vets), when you're not going to be relevant? Its now evident we're mailing in 2025, Jezzah may as well roll over the CAP into 2026.....though, even then there's no strategy or plan to improve.

True but none of them are coming here... The Jones boys are happy with the Tier 5 and 6 one year deals...
Right. I’m just disagreeing with the notion there aren’t people who can help this team out there. There’s still some first wave guys out there. Now signing here that’s a different discussion.

You can’t roll over that much cap space. So they have to spend it somehow. Even if you use it to sign Micah that move saves you even more money. So something has to happen.

They already have those things accounted for...you seem to forget that when a player gets added to the cap another comes off, so the net effect isnt the new contract amount. Even after all the moves, there is 46m in space as of right now....this includes Murray and Elam's hits. The only ones I don't see are Sanborn and Williams. They draft picks will only add about 4-5m because for each draft pick we keep there is another guy that will come off the cap.

You are a day late and a dollar short....Turpin's tender won't hit the cap because he has signed a new deal. His cap hit is 3.1m. THe hits for players like Hoffman and THomas are just over 1 million. Just go to Spotrac or OvertheCap. You won't have to post things you think, it is already there.
