Gilmore was traded to Cowboys and currently has this one year remaining on his existing contract.
He is set to be a UFA in 2024.

He will also 34 years of age in '24 as well. Usually that's a tail end career of a vet CB.
And Gilmore clearly is a stopgap answer at this time,

Bland is a young, big, fast and he is a natural ballhawk INT.
Once he keeps and stays in position, he can bead forward and break upon the passing lanes of the QB.
I've always regretted passing upon Chargers' Asante Samuels Jr. but Bland is proving he is well
adjusting to playing on the outside in just 2 games.

It will be interesting to see him how he fares against the better stalwart passes ala Burdy, Hurts, Hebert and Tua
(and WRs) that are on our incoming schedule.

Yes although I wouldn’t be against bringing him back for depth/mentor role for Bland, Mukuamu, Scott, rookie corners next year. As long as the price is reasonable.
Then hire him as a coach. His playing career is over. Similar to Cooks. What a waste.

Yes, I agree - that will be dictated by him and how much $ he wants. If he is asking for a reasonable deal, why not. If he wants to get as much as he can thinking this is his last shot at a big contract, then it wouldn't make sense.

I don't get the Cooks criticisms around here. He gets us a few first downs per game. When the Oline gels and holds their blocks longer, we will go deep and Cooks and Gallup and Tolbert and Lamb will eat.

As far as Bland, yes, he is the present and the future.

Hes been a stud since day one. This guy is a starting, pro bowl caliber cb and if he continues at this rate there will be posts questioning if him or Diggs is the cb1.

I'd say him and Diggs will be CB 1&2, and I'd like to see if we can resign Gilmore to a relatively inexpensive deal as CB3.

Still not convinced he’s ready/good yet. Bad qb with no wr. Next few weeks will see - schedule brutal.

Gilmore is basically on a 1 year deal. He has no more guaranteed money on his contract. So he is likely to be cut in the offseason to save 10M in cap space.

Guess it depends on where the coaches like him the best. Slot or outside.

Curious to know where a majority of his INTs have come from. Outside or slot.

Bad decision by the QB, and even worse play on the ball by the WR. I love that Bland took full advantage on that pick 6, but it should never have happened. That WR has to know Bland is there and will jump the route. As soon as Jones threw it, he should have been running towards the QB, not fading back. He's throwing from all the way across the field. That's a high school level mistake by the WR. A better QB/WR tandem won't make that mistake.

Jury is still out as an outside corner, but no doubt he is 1 of the 3 starters next season. Gilmore is likely going to be too expensive to keep, wonder if Lewis is the same. Adding another high level corner in the draft is still a need, maybe not the top one, but they got to think about getting younger.

I didn't read all that but I know it's easier to find an inside slot guy more than it is an outside guy is harder to find. So in this case if he continues to play this way on the outside, I'm keeping him there. We've got plenty of other guys on this team or we can draft another guy to play inside.. Let's just see how he plays over the entire season not one game because the game before he was a little shaky...

No Gilmore 's not gonna be too expensive to keep he's just up there in age..
do we want to keep him does he want to stay here for around the same money he's making.

However, it's going to be easier to keep playing bland on the outside and find a slot guy...

so to the original posters question yes bland stays outside if he continues to grow out there it's much easier to find a slot guy.. As a matter of fact some of these dudes we drafted the last three years like mook or Eric Scott or some other dudes on this team can probably be developed into a slot guy.
