Will Grier joins coaching staff as offensive assistant

I thought that would happen especially after he retired.

I think he saw the writing on the wall .. at best he would be QB3 for the Panthers and that coaching opportunity, which is a gateway to a coaching career in the NFL, in Dallas may not be there for him next year with the Cowboys or any team.

These are elite coaching positions that should only go to the very best in the world, not "we like our guys" former players. 99.99% of players do not go on to become good coaches. How did the Garrett hire go for us?

You start at the high school and college levels, and then work your way up. You don't just step into an elite coaching position without any experience unless the guy hiring you is an absolute moron.

Yep, the minute I saw that he retired I had a feeling we would get this news. Not sure if it is a good or bad thing, but he supposedly has a good rapport with Dak and Schotty.

Will Grier is here an an offensive assistant. Up until a week ago he would have been in Panthers camp competing for QB 3.

Saying it's good for the Cowboys to give Grier a head start on a coaching career somehow gets twisted into supporting the Jerry status quo. Grier is not the OC. Grier is not even the QBs coach. His role here is essentially going to be like an internship.

Putting a crap spin on everything, even something as minor as this, is what makes people negative.

There are lots of former players that go right into coaching. His position probably isn't anything much more than something similar to a graduate assistant. He isn't stepping into an "elite" position.

Exactly....guys like Marcus Dixon, our new DL coach started in a similar fashion. Lots of other former players not just for Dallas have been given jobs like this and it is a chance for them to work their way up.
