"I have a great feeling about Schotty, what he's looking for," McClay said. "He's going to communicate, he's going to over communicate, he's going to ask his staff to do that and they're going to over communicate with us and we're going to over communicate with them.
"That's how we're going to get it done the first year and we'll continue to grow and get better at it."
McClay's introduction to Schottenheimer came during his time as a coaching analyst with the Cowboys in 2022, where he got a front row seat to how Schottenheimer went about his role, and at times did more than what was asked of him.
"Saw how he grinded and he was a really big part of the advance process in helping the coaches get ready, so we spent a lot of time talking," McClay said. "He spent a lot of time talking to the pro staff and so you got a great feel for his understanding of personnel, how personnel is used."

only the Cowboys would say "over communicate" as if its a good thing.

that's like saying "under budget" as a good thing. No, tell me how much you actually need so I can allocate that resource elsewhere.

Also i am going to need to get over hearing "Schotty" like we're in Animal House.

Is McClay still without a contract?

I kind of like some things that I'm hearing about Schottenheimer but I guess I'll just be one of a few. It gets my hopes up some. I'm with you on the Jerry deal rocknrobcowboy.

I'd rather try this than keeping McCarthy

Not because I feel confident Schottenheimer will be better, but I think we saw McCarthy's ceiling.

At least this is a different ish voice.

I'm not excited about him as our new HC, but I'll give him a chance.

And make no mistake, Brian Schottenheimer and his staff will be a big part of the team's draft process.

"Coaches are a part of the draft process," McClay said. "That's what we do and that's what we build and that's why we've had success is having ownership scouting and coaching together and having a vision and sharing that."
That's going to be a hard sell. We have all seen "coaches" draft picks bomb.

The Cowboys need a real GM to be a GM and keep coaches out of the draft room until after the pick is made.

...maybe, this is what the team needed. Focus and communication.

Notice how, McCarthy didnt talk to anyone. Its like the guy was on a island.

McClay is overrated. Watch them botch the draft this year.
That is awfully pessimistic. They will not botch the draft. At least not until the players they draft are asked to play. We will have the next great Mazi Smith, Deuce Vaughn and Jalen Tolbert. We will be great again with all the players Jethro picks. We will be on SN contention. Right after the draft hype.

Will, do last year’s draft picks also need to grow up real quick?

Feel free to rustle up some courage and tell the Jones Boys they need to spend some more on free agency because no draft ever yields 100% results.
