Before our season was done you saw stories saying he might be the Jet's next GM. Has anyone heard if we locked him up? Is he interviewing? I think this guy has played a big part in our turn around and I'm hoping he stays.

Jets already got their guy so I assume McClay is here to stay this year atleast.

Correct. The rumors about McClay were more than a little trumped up and got people quite nervous for no reason.

If you are observant and understand how the game is played at the executive level in the NFL, you know how much of a good old boy's network it is.

Just take a look around who is getting hired as a general manager. It is sickening nepotism.

The "interest" in McClay never materialized as legitimate mainly because he is so home grown, the interest in him would be lukewarm at best beyond the fact he would satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Was wondering same thing a few days ago. How many teams are still looking for their HC. But how many of them already have a GM type guy in place.

Maybe the rumor was homegrown too, like the one about Marinelli to TB, wonder if Broaddus started it.....:)

Almost all of them. The Jets and Bears were the only teams actively looking for a real GM. Pace got hired and then the Jets hired Casserly's lackey.

Thanks, I didn't see any of that info, but haven't been watching any shows either or had them on mute.

He needs a little more of a track record to be a serious contender for a GM job. This is how it goes. His name surfaces for a year or two and if the team maintains a decent level of success, he will then get interviews and an eventual job. Jerry's hand will be forced on McClay by 2016 if the team stays above .500.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but no one outside of Dallas is bringing up his name as the next great GM.

I'm glad to hear that he isn't going anywhere. We need to keep this nucleus intact. I believe the Commanders were also in the market for a new GM but I'm pretty sure they filled it as well.

I'm not sure if he will or won't

I wouldn't doubt it. He seems to like McClay and those types of rumors are often started by a guys agent or friends.

The original rumor came from a national guy. I forget which, tho. The local guys picked it up, but never pushed it from what I saw. Either way, McClay, when asked about the rumors simply said, "He was a Cowboy."

It's funny that at this time last year, when we had 3 years in a row of win or go home games, a LOT of people wanted everyone in the FO gone....now, McClay has stamped his place, JJ is Exec of the Year, and the big 3 coaches are all signed and staying....what a difference a 13-5 record will do for you....
