If we win tomorrow (regardless of WFT) I can absolutely see Jerry using the late season win streak as a reason to stay the course and keep Nolan for another year

We like our coaches.
The legacy lives on.

It's The Cowboy Way.

The masses here will in fact respond with their best rationalizations to keep him as well...

That Jerry I tell ya...
He can sell it.

Oh he’s definitely getting another year. These last 3 games saved his arse. You know it only takes one game to make Jerry’s eyes sparkle and throw money at that person. Just look at Jason Garrett. The fact that we’re still in contention will make Jerry Jones say: “we held up good. I see nothing wrong with the team except injuries. I will hold onto all my staff members into next season.”

I've a feeling Nolan has already been told he is not going to be retained, I think this happened after the Baltimore defeat.
Despite the improvement since then not once has McCarthy sang praises.

Does Mike McCarthy actually want him back?

Nolan abandoned his entire defense to go back to 4 down 1 gap.
If he is willing to run what works best for his players I'd suffer through another year.

BUT, in reality I thought he was the worst choice among assistants and think we can do far better.
I'd love someone who can come in and spend all off-season adapting to what we have and add this off-season.

One could argue that it has been Nolan and his ravaged defense that wins the division for us if we actually do win the division. The turnovers have been the big difference during the win streak.

The team has nothing to gain and everything to lose from winning tomorrow

If we win tomorrow Nolan will be back. Take it to the bank

"Spend all off- season"

Thats a luxury that Nolan didnt get in his first year. And then all the injuries. Not to mention he was handed a bag of turds ill suited for his scheme when he got here.

Not defending Nolan, just simply pointing out the obvious facts for those being hypercritical of a guy that has probably had just about the least to work with in the history of the NFL in his first year.

I'm thinking, no, he's still going to go. Getting a bunch of turnovers vs 3 of the worst QBs in the league won't be enough to save his job.

No, Nolan is gone. He is not a hands on coach which is why the adjustments always come too late. Same with Garrett, prior.

..good point. Its a big gamble bringing him back. Maybe it was MM behind the reason the defense turned a corner. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Regardless if he stays or not, I think our defense needs some talent. I’d like to see what he could do with an off season/talent from the draft but I understand if we don’t keep him

Honestly, I'm kinda in the know what you got but not what you getting school. I mean, unless we know without we can top proven DC that will impact this D from day one, I'm not sure I wanna start over. What happens if we bring a new guy and it's our players ANOTHER half-season to click.

If the Cowboys are going more to a true base 4-3, then I don't think Nolan will be back.

I don't think the scheme is the reason the defense has been very bad often this year. I would put the blame on the players freelancing and not maintaining responsibility on a play. Too many players just doing what they feel on any given play. I doubt scheme will fix that. Getting players who will follow instruction and study film are the key.

I suspect McCarthy will keep Nolan.
