At this point you have Martin and Fred to deal with next and they will get done. But I think the jury is still out on Collins myself and he is the one of them I think is going to be the hardest to sign and he is at a position that is the easiest on the oline to replace. Center is very important and Fred will get done, Martin is an elite guard and will get done. Collins is a good guard who may develope into elite status but he never got that big rookie deal most good players get and he will want to get paid, if any of them end up walking I suspect it will be Collins
I think Collins shows elite traits. As Broaddus always says, fans expected him to be a first year all pro like Martin. Very unrealistic.

He may very well become an elite player and I thought he played well last year myself. But he has to become that elite player and time will tell on that. But that created an issue in itself, how many oline guys can you have being played elite player contracts
Not something we have to deal with now but it starts very soon and I think that's a factor in what we have done this off season

Collins will get the money he deserved. Jerry Jones is not going to let La'El Collins' All Pro, potential HOF career happen somewhere else after that story.

Liked what I seen from him last year but way too early to be talking all pro let alone HOF
But if he does develope into an elite player how do you pay 5 elite oline guys on second contracts

This is at least one reason they would prefer to not take on many larger FA contracts that extend a few years

By not giving guys like Lamar Miller $6.5M/YR AAV.

We have a good RB in McFadden.

:omg::laugh::lmao::lmao2:I wish there was a 'throwing up' emoticon as well, no offense but he's average at best at this point in his un-illustrious career and anyone that thinks McFeeble is going to stay healthy two years in a row for the first time in his career is kidding themselves IMHO

It's always a problem to lock up multiple players (especially really good ones) at a single position group.

Last year was the 2nd year in a row he didn't miss any games.

Well, guess that shut me up!! But I still say he's average at best and I can see the point of those that would like to see a stud running behind this O-Line, something similar to when we had Emmitt running behind that beast of a Line from the 90's

That's why I laugh when some suggest we draft a OT at 4 this year

It's hard to assume anything when a decision on any of them is two years away.

Martin is going to be a franchise player. I'd expect them to hammer out a similar deal like they did with Tyron.

If Collins turns out to be an All-Pro candidate, which he might be, I think he'll get paid too.

Fred is the real wildcard, and I hate it because he's probably the smartest guy in the NFL. I've been taking some intro classes to get a 2nd bachelors in Comp Engineering and it's enough to make a grown man cry. But, he is a center. And if you're going to pay 3 OL you take the two top notch guards and you draft a top center. I think he'll be smart enough to sign a longer term deal that may not pay as much, but gives him a lot of job security.

Normally I'd just keep one guard in this salary cap era. But Collins looks like the real deal. And if Romo's contract comes off the books, you get a QB on a rookie contract, all of a sudden you have a lot more cap space. Surround that young QB with a lot of OL talent and give him the best chance to succeed.

We don't need to do anything with TFred until 2018
We don't have to do anything with Martin until 2019
We may never have to do something big with Collins
We drafted CGreen to replace Free

If we are holding off trying to win now to save money to sign a couple OL in a few years, that is some of the dumbest thinking I have ever come across. Especially with the cap going up 10m every year and having our QB and LT under fair deals.

We are holding off making big flashy deals in free agency because 9 times out of 10 those deals are harmful to your organization.

I pray a gust of wind doesn't knock you off the ledge.

Ask DEN about FA and going for it

And I hope you don't get carpal tunnel syndrome from squeezing that nickel so tight

Did you forget that 9 times out of 10 includes a 1 time out of 10 where it works?

How were you as an algebra student?

It's always a problem to lock up multiple players (especially really good ones) at a single position group.

There's always a chance one of them might elect to try free agency instead of agreeing to a long term extension, but it's unlikely, IMO.

Jerry Jones likes keeping players that are worthy, especially when they are former first round draft picks like Travis Frederick and Zack Martin.

We have to go back to the 2008 class, Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins, to find first rounders who didn't get second contracts in Big D. Jones was injury prone and Jenx had worn out his welcome.

La'el Collins is in a different boat than his line-mates, since that bizarre situation led to him going undrafted.

Collins will be eligible to sign an extension next off-season, whereas drafted players must wait until after their third completed season. Dallas may be eager to get something done with Collins in order to bypass his restricted free agency year in 2018.

How big of a commitment would it be after only two seasons? It wouldn't be cheap, certainly, but it shouldn't be too arduous, either.

I expect Fredbeard to get a long term extension next off-season and Martin to follow suit in 2018.

Ideally, I'd want to sign Collins to a three year extension after this season that would run through 2019.

That would put him in line for a big money extension in the '19 off-season.

Frederick in '17, Martin in '18 and Collins in '19.
