Will Rob Ryan push for Cowboys to draft Cal defensive end?

Posted on 03/09/2011 by torsborn
California DE Cameron Jordan looks like he’d be a good fit for the Dallas Cowboys and new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

The Cowboys own the ninth overall pick in the draft. Three of Dallas’ top four defensive ends are free agents, so the club is taking a close look at the draft’s deep defensive end class.

Jordan is among the best prospects. He’s capable of playing all along the line, which is a trait that new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan likes in his ends.

“We moved him around a lot and he really proved to be a very smart player with the ability to adapt,” California defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast said.

The 6-4, 287-pound Jordan was at his best when he was stunting and lining up in gaps. He’s climbing up draft boards after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and after running a 4.71 40 in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“I thought he had a chance to be very disruptive for us, so we moved him around week to week to utilize his skill set,” said Pendergast, a former Cowboys defensive assistant froom 1996-2002. “He’s a big, physical, athletic kid. He allows you to have a lot of flexibility. He’s extremely athletic and he knows how to use his feet. He can play up and down the line of scrimmage and be productive.

“Whatever system he plays in as a pro, 3-4, 4-3, it won’t matter. He’s flexible, not pigeon-holed to play one style of defense.”

The Bears sometimes played Jordan at “three-technique,” lining him up in the gap between guard and center.

“He can be a mismatch inside for guards,” Pendergast said. “He’s very good with his hands in there. He’s got a lot of length and height. He’s able to get his hands up in throwing lanes when he doesn’t beat the guard in the pass rush.”

Pendergast also raved about Jordan’s character.

“He’s got a very bubbly personality, a lot of energy and a lot of juice,” Pendergast said. “Our practices start at 7 a.m. and he’d be the first one there, and he’s not slouched down in his chair either. He’s got a lot of juice. He’s got a lot of energy and a lot of juice. He takes the game and doing things on the field very seriously. And he is very coachabole. You never have to tell him things more than once.”

again, this is like another post that said Quan Sturdivant would be a noce fit and that he would fit nicely in with Ryan defense. But again non of this is from Ryan.

No source saying Ryan likes Jordan or Quan. Just specualtion because a player would fit in his system. Well so would alot of other players in the draft. Watt would fit into his defense too, as would Peterson, Harris, Dareus, the list can go on and on.

So please no more of these Ryan would like this player post until Ryan says in his own words.
