I read in another Cowboy forum or somewhere that Hamin has expressed a desire to check out FA. Has anyone read/heard him make such a statement? Just wondering how much he wants and/or how much cap money we can afford to spend to keep him.

No, I haven't heard this, but I'm not suprised. That's why you sign a one year deal.

You're right, why spend money on a position that's been a real problem for years? And not only have you found the solution, but a PRO BOWL solution at that. I'm sure the Commanders would like a Pro Bowl safety to relace Taylor. I'm sure Parcell's would like to take him.

Sure, the position has been a problem - but you simply cannot have huge contracts at every single position on the field. A big money contract would mean that we'd have a ton of money tied up in the 2ndary as we will have to give Newman a new deal soon as well.

I'm sure you won't understand this but you have to be able to go cheap at some positions -- you have to have positions where young guys who don't make much get it done.

Depends on what he asks for.

Agreed. As much as I think he's a good fit on the team, you can only have som much money invested at the Safety position (thanks Roy). If he's reasonable, I think JJ signs him up. If he wants big $$$, we will have to pass.

you're right on that, but what is interesting is that other teams go cheap at the Strong Safety position and obviously we didn't.

He may be the "best" since Woodson but he's nowhere near Woodson's quality.

Not many are...

I thought that I read about 3 - 4 weeks back that JJ was interested in re-signing Hamlin.

Our two big unrestricted FAs are Hamlin and Flo.

I think Hamlin stays, but I'm not sure what the brass thinks about Flo and an extension.

I think at least one of these guys stays, and I'd bet on Hamlin for sure. Hopefully we franchise tag Flo for 1 more year if necessary.

If we dont resign him I wouldnt mind drafting a corner at #22 and then moving A. Henry over to Free Safety. I dont think Henry has the quickness or change of direction to be a corner for too many more years.

And that is still an understatement. Just think how much improved the D would be with a swap of Roy for Woodson in his prime. I would give up our #1 pick for that. :)

Agreed. Roy is Roy. I'm not going to get into this whole Roy debate thing but I know this much.........Roy is not in the same zipcode as Woody and never will be. If his name wasn't Roy Williams, and we didn't pick him where we did - I have to wonder if he would have the supporters he has.

or we could just draft that CB/S guy from Oklahoma, if he declares, not sure if he's a Junior or Senior, or even what his name is lol

Last thing I want is to be held hostage by that position again.

It depends on what he wants. If we can find a good deal with him then I'd have no problem with that. Else, I wouldn't have a problem with putting Watkins in his place, or have Henry in his place. : )

at this point i would cut roy if it had to be done to keep hamlin. ham is clearly the better player, roy can't even tackle anymore.

Dallas can't afford to break the bank for him but hopefully they'll reach an agreement similar to Crayton's deal with probably a slightly larger signing bonus...

Being an oldtimes and seeing some of the truly greats play I have to wonder how many Roy supporters are very young and maybe don't remember watching Woody play. He was definatily a top ten all time safety and maybe top 5. Despite the Roy hype by so many I cannot think of anything Roy does better than Woody did. I would also hazard a guess that the majority here that have watched the game since the 60s would disagree.
