I was thinking that at some point in the 07 season that we would line WR Stanback up for some trick plays and throw some deep balls down field since he was formerly a QB for University of Washington. But that didnt happen.
I was just reading Stanback's Bio at DC.com, well I'll post it so you dont have to go dig it up., then I'll ask my question. Actually three questions.
COLLEGE: Possessing size, speed, athleticism and intelligence Isaiah Stanback enters the NFL with the same aspirations of a few other notable college quarterbacks who were moved to wide receiver in the NFL and found success. In looking for a Hines Ward or Antwaan Randle El type player, the Cowboys drafted Stanback in the fourth round in hopes of utilizing his versatility and his intriguing abundance of athletic ability. Stanback will be given an initial opportunity to make his mark with Dallas as a return man while he makes the adjustment to wide receiver in training camp. Stanback, who earned his early splashes of action at Washington as a freshman receiver, went on to compile one of the more prolific quarterbacking careers in school history. His 3,868 career passing yards ranked 11th in UW history. Stanback also finished in the Huskies' all-time top ten in the following statistical categories: career yards per pass completion (second, 14.38); career rushing yardage by a quarterback (third, 794 yards); total offensive yards per game (fourth, 126.0); career passing yards per attempt (sixth, 7.4), career rushing attempts by a quarterback (sixth, 234); and career total offensive yards (10th, 4,662). While competing in track in the spring of his junior year at Washington, Stanback placed fifth in the Pac-10 Finals of the 100-meter dash. He went on to finish sixth in the West Regional Meet at BYU, missing an NCAA Championships berth by just .02 seconds. He closed his collegiate career ranked among UW's all-time top-10 in the 100-meter dash (10.48, eighth), the 4x100-meter relay (40.07, seventh), and the indoor 60-meter dash (6.80, eighth) indoors. Despite not playing baseball on the collegiate level, Stanback was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.
2006: A very promising senior season came to an abrupt halt after seven games when Stanback underwent season-ending surgery October 17 to repair a sprained right foot. Prior to the injury he had completed 101 of his 189 passing attempts for 1,325 yards and 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He was ranked second in the Pac-10 Conference and was 22nd nationally in total offense (239.3 yards per game) and had led the Huskies to a 4-3 record and a 2-2 mark in league play. Stanback rushed for 350 yards (4.1 average) in his seven starts as a senior. The injury took place in a 27-17 loss to Oregon Statehis final collegiate gamewhere Stanback completed 12 of 24 passes for 162 yards and ran for both of the Huskies scores. He opened the season in impressive fashion in a win over San Jose State, completing 16 of 25 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. He also had a career-highs for rushing attempts (17) and rushing yards (102) in the win over SJSU. In a big win over UCLA, Stanback accounted for 248 of UW's 249 yards of total offense by throwing for 200 yards (18-for-29 and three TD's) and running 13 times for 48 yards..
2005: Stanback started all 11 games at quarterback and completed 143 of his 264 (54.2%) of his passes for 2,136 yards and nine TD's. His yardage total marked the 15th highest single season figure in Washington history, and his 194.2 passing yards per game were 11th best in school annals. Stanback also ran for 353 yards on 100 carries with five rushing touchdowns en route to being named the team's Most Outstanding Player. He finished his junior season ranked 10th on the UW's career total offense list (2,489). As well as moving into the No. 8 all-time slot on the school's total offensive yards per game (226.3) list. He led the Huskies to a win at Arizona by completing 10 of 19 passes for 157 yards and one TD. He also had a career-high 96 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in that game. His career-long long 69-yard Hail Mary TD pass as the first half expired was the key play in the victory over UA. Stanback also enjoyed a solid day in Washington's game against No.1 USC. He completed 14-of-18 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown, while also scoring on a run.
Do you think Stanback will remain on the roster and get moved to backup QB?
Will Brad Johnson stay with the Cowboys?
Are there any potential canidates that can be brought in during training camp that would have a legitimate shot at replacing Johnson as backup QB?
