about any player in the draft?

Do you place any value at all on the combine?

I don't put much value on it personally, at least almost everything we're shown/told, the only exception is if a player's weight baloons for no reason. I know the wonderlics are eventually leaked but not officially and I do put some value on those, and I do like to see shuttle times but I think the only reason that teams even go is for the interviews and we're not privvy to how those go.

There will be some surprises at the weigh-ins but anyone with half a brain can look at games and see who is legitimate in the program and who isn't and the 40 is the most worthless thing ever tested.

I think the combine is great for players changing position.

Specifically, I like to see how DEs that might convert to OLB perform in space. LB drills like coverage, lateral movement, etc. I think its great for things like that.

If someone runs an abysmal 40, its definitely a red flag. Like a RB running a 4.8 or something.

Actually I do because some players not as well known can make a case for them selves. Like Ware. So I think it's more important for small school players to do better because the lack of exposure they have had. So yes it can change opinions at least that's my opinion.....

I dont put much value in it either but I like to use it as a measureable for certain positions. I wanna see how Bobby Carpenter, Antonio Cromartie, Greg Lee, and D'Qwell Jackson do...

The combine changes peoples minds every year, ala the workout warriors. Its been discussed time and time again on how a player hads a highly productive college career and his stock falls based on 40 times or workouts. Look at MattJones, he was project as a late day 1 pick and sky rocketed after his workouts.

On the other hand you always have players that look like Tarzan and play like Jane after their workouts.

The main thing its good for is not something that we really get to see or analyze. I think the main bonuses it gives are the Mecdical and the Interview. Most teams have a good idea of what these guys are physically capable of, but having a comprehensive medical performed by a neutral source and getting to talk to the players face to face in a neutral setting is a very valuable thing.

That's exactly my thoughts although I neglected to mention the medical. Unfortunately for the average fan like us, these things are never "released" officially.

I'm just trying to think of a single player whose stock soared because of a strong combine who actually lived up to it in the NFL.

I agree totally, the players with question marks for health reasons,if they come thru the combine with a clean bill of health or the opposite, can shoot them up the draft or drop them way down.
This year, I'm interested in hearing how McNeil's back is. How Carpenter's injury(Knee?) is etc...This to me is the true value of the combine.

All Eyes on Carpenter and Tapp for me. If Tapp can play OLB and is fast enough to get in and out of coverage, then he's my number 2 pick.

When do they run the 40?

I think you have to use the combine.
I think the combine should not be the whole grade on a guy but I do think it is a valuable tool available to the teams should be used ...
I watched on the TV last year and one thing I thought the combine told us was that the OLINE men were a weaker class than anticipated and I think that held true

Sure I place some value on the process. Especially for guys that I havent seen much of or that Im kinda on the fence about.

But I wont all of a sudden buy into the hype of some guy cause he runs a fast 40.

I agree, but teams buy into it. If Lawson runs a 4.43 40 like he was reported to have run, and Todd Watkins runs a 4.28 40 like he was reported to have run, Lawson could jump into the top 14 and Watkins could move from the 3rd to the early second.

I'm not sure when they run the 40 Neosapien23.. But I can't wait.
