Will The Costa-Haters still hate If he shows improvement?

Costa did okay last year, particularly toward the end of the year. He's far from the disaster people make him out to be. There's no doubt he'll improve in year two.

Don't you understand that it was Costa's fault that Austin showed up out of shape, Bryant didn't learn the playbook, Murray was injured, Fiametta couldn't stay healthy, age finally caught up to Kosier and Smith hit the rookie wall and struggled the second half of the year.

He's evil I tells ya.

How many times do we need to see the ball snapped over Tony's head before some fans realize Costa stinks?

I'm convinced he can't play center in the NFL. If he proves me wrong, oh well, it won't be the first time I've been wrong about a player, but I doubt that Costa with be this good player that so many fans want him to turn out to be.

Felt the same about Gurode at one time as he would air mail snaps or snap it to low but it got better. I don't know how Costa will fair we will have to wait and see. I think the poor snaps early on last year had a negitive impact on him as his focus became more on getting the snap down and less about firing off the ball

Good point about Gurode, but If I had to choose between the two, Gurode wins hands down.

I'm not saying I would not take Gurode, I just think people are being very quick to write Costa off. Last year was his 2nd in the NFL and he was thrown out there to start and yes he struggled but often times you can learn from your struggles more than you can from your success. I fully expect to see competition for the starting centers job but would not be shocked to see a much improved Costa in camp

Gurode wasn't even smart enough to make the line calls..

Sometimes (okay maybe every time) I think these discussions just boil down to differences in posters personalities.

Some personalities are simply very definitive. They decide very quickly if something/someone is good or bad and there is no doubt in their mind about that conclusion. Seldom in doubt. Seldom gray. It's black or white. They're not real interested in hearing anothers point of view as the decision has been made in their mind, case closed.

Other tends to see the possibilities in a situation or person.

Think about the Costa discussions in those terms and you'll soon see who falls in which camp.

I didn't leap to any conclusion. The 30th ranking has been common knowledge on this board for several months. You must have missed the 20 or so threads that the ranking was discussed. I can't take credit for the ratings. They are not an invention that I came up with. Costa's ceiling may be 16th. IMO it is closer to 28th. If you want a center that has a ceiling of average, you have lower expectations than I do. One thing is for certain, he is not the only olineman on this team with below average talent.

The CB comment was joking with Risen. I am one of the few on this board that agrees with many of his opinions. After getting to know him, I understand his positions very well and have defended many of them.

I didn't say I'd missed the 'ranking' I was curious if you knew who ranked them and what it was based on. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you didn't and you don't. But in the absence of supporting info, I'm not too impressed by the '30.'

I've already made my opinion of our OC coverage in several threads, including this one. And I didn't say that I wanted one with a ceiling of 'average'. I also didn't say that was Costa's ceiling.

Let's keep in mind that Gurode was a 2nd round pick who was an outright failure at guard.

It took a while for him to become an accomplished center.

I'm not saying Costa will be anywhere close to a "Gurode" when he puts it all together, but let's give the kid a little time.

I am well aware of where the rankings come from, just as you are. If you are out on a limb, it just broke. PFF is one used for rating the positions and there are others. If you are not aware of the different areas used to grade the center position, it wouldn't do much good for me to explain them to you. As for Costa's 30th rank, I am not impressed myself.

Not out on a limb, at all. But thanks for looking up the source for your '30.' The entire reason I asked is because I'm aware that there are others out there. Don't bother to explain how the rankings are arrived at to me, because that would entail looking it up for yourself and endeavoring to understand. It's a lot easier to just say '30' and 'mad' and then blame Jerry for not getting a '1' in free agency.

Riddle me this, Batman: Outside of the Washington game, where all indications are the Commanders simulated the snap, how many bad snaps did Costa have last season?

I haven't been impressed with his play, but the bad snap thing is overblown.

Why do I picture some guy with short, stubbly arms playing football?

He doesn't look that hairy to me, but he does have stubby arms. ;)

I find it hard to believe that anyone will hate any cowboy who isn't a dbag, if they perform well

Why is it automatically hate sometimes you just do not think the guy can play at a starting level. Why do people always think you hate a player if you do not like him. How about some people just do nto think he can get the job done :bang2::bang2:

Hate and hater are Just lazy and imprecise terms used to polarize arguments.

I didn't have to look up the source or the reasons for the ratings and I really don't take this stuff serious enough to get mad. I expect the worse when it comes to the center and guard positions. Undrafted free agents, late round picks and free agent jags are short on talent and tend to keep expectations low.
