Saying that Costa sucks right now is completely accurate, and based on what I've seen I personally do not believe he is capable of the significant improvement that would be required to become even a serviceable NFL center. I fail to see the crime nor the inaccuracy of that line of thinking.
Oh, I have no doubt you fail to see it.
Saying he sucks might or might not be accurate, but it's not criticism. It's just an insult. Saying you don't believe he's capable of significant improvement is your opinion. That's fine, as it is, but it's not based on anything, so, even if it turns our right it's only by coincidence.
Criticism would be on the order of 'he gets pushed back on passing downs because he's slow getting out of his stance' or 'he tends to overreach because he has short arms, and this gets him off balance and gets him beat. It's not going to change unless he finds a way to have longer arms.' I think both of these things were true last season, by the way. Though he got better at getting out of his stance later in the year. I'm not sure what he can do about overextending except work hard at not doing it, but it's still going to mean that he's at a disadvantage against longer-armed players.
But the point is, you very rarely see posters come down on criticism when it's supported by details. And you almost always see them come down on it when it's simply mindless, directionless bashing. That's a good thing, though. Because it encourages posters to explain why they think something is going on when they want to take a hard line on a topic, which leads to better discussions overall and provides a chance for everybody to participate and to learn something.
