Looking at our wide receiver core right now and what it could possibly be heading into the season.

@ Wide Receiver

Terrell Owens
Terry Glenn
Patrick Crayton
Sam Hurd
Miles Austin
Isiah Stanback
Danny Amendola
Mark Bradford
Daniel Polk
Adam Jones(in situations)(?)

I believe you have to ask yourselves some questions like::

- What happens if Terrell Owens get hurt? (Who do the Cowboys have to step up in his place?)

- Are their players right now in free agency that could possibly help the Cowboys? (i.e. Keenan McKardell, Eric Moulds, etc.)

- How have Isiah Stanback been coming along? (Have he progress himself into a better wide receiver in running routes, reading the defense, and catching the ball? and does he have a understanding of the playbook?

- Will Miles Austin be used more?

Fans what's your thoughts? What would you see the Cowboys doing?

I am about 98% sure we will make a trade for another WR before the season starts. If not on June 1st then by mid July. I think inlight of Roy's recent comments and lack of presence at camp he has made himself more expendable then we all realise. I also believe former first day picks like Spears and Carpenter would be nice trade bait as well.
I see 2 options for us at WR. Roy Williams or Chad Johnson. While Roy does have Chad beat in the age department Chad has put up better numbers and has stayed healthier then Roy. Also we already have a big physical WR in T.O. we need a speedy homerun threat to play alongside Owens. Our best bet would be to make a play for Chad.
Williams, Carpenter, Spears, 5th and 7th for Chad Johnson...?

With Terry Glenn's injury (probably career ending) and TO's age, the answer to this question is very likely to be....."no." I'm not saying TO is declining because he takes such good care of himself, but at his age the likelihood of injury I think does go up and what happens once he gets hurt? We have Crayton....good but not "game changing." We have fast guys that can't catch (Austin). We have slow guys that can catch but not separate (Hurd). And we have a bunch of guys that we're hoping can play.

This is why the "after June 1" rumors continue to swirl. Jerry knows this stuff better than we do, and he may not be done. We'll see.

Losing T.O would be catastrophic if they don't do anything from here on out.

There's a reason why Jerry wants to pick up a quality vet WR. TO's age & Glenn's knee situation. All we can do is hope Glenn returns to his old level of play for 1 more year--might be too much to hope for. Crayton is a good #3; the rest are a hope & a prayer. Witten is a great TE which helps a lot. Here's hoping somehow we can add a quality WR or that Austin, Jeffers and/or Stanbach step it up. Anyway, hopefully Garrett can incorporate Felix Jones (perhaps even Pacman?) moves/speed/hands to give Romo more firepower. If Bennett and/or Curtis can block well enough so Witten can be used exclusively in the passing game, it would be a huge improvement. Too often in 07 Witten was kept in to block for Romo cause Fasano wasn't good enough/made too many mistakes. If Bennett in particularly can also be the receiving TE they want opposite Witten, he gives us another huge target in the red zone. BTW: Was TE Kevin Boss of the Giants a rookie in 07? Trying to judge how much we might be able to get from Bennett this year.

Yep, we scored a total of 0 TD's in 1.5 games without TO.

His injury also kept us from winning against the Giants.

What was pointed out on NFLTA the other day is a bit concerning. TO is the only bonafide "game changer" on offense and he's 34. Perhaps Felix can become a "game changer" as well but a lot is unknown right now.

They have the same receivers they had last year, except Terry Glenn might actually play this season. Consider that with the fact that we had one of the best passing attacks last year.

By last years standard should be a non-issue.

I think WR will eventually need to be addressed for the future but for the season I think the Cowboys will be fine. Without Glenn in the lineup the Cowboys were one of the top offense and I see no reason to think they will change this year.

We will find out soon. If Jerry has the chance to make a move for a vet WR you know he will. Otherwise we go with what we have. If TO stays healthy, I'm really not concerned about our WR situation.

It really is simple. Our receiveing core hinges on one thing... Roy Williams being at OTA's. Oh wait, I mean TO. It hinges on TO being healthy. Notice I didn't say offense. Our offense can survive but if he is healthy, there is nothing we can't do in that offense. If he is not, then we have to hide the receivers with Witten and Felix.

Add in Glenn and this entire offense will just be magical. But if you had to bet money, would you bet on TO and Glenn making it through the year or missing games in '08?

Great teams should be able to overcome injuries.
